Finally I take an afternoon off. I take the kids tubing and motor is running great. On the way in motor just dies like it is out of gas. I check the connection to the tank looks good so I remove and put back on, same process for the motor connection. I try to pump the ball and it is completly empty and will not fill. Where do I go from here. I would like to make sure it is not something simple before taking it to the shop. Thanks in advance for all your wisdom.

I would assume there is a hole in the line or either quick connect isn't sealing, which would explain not being able to prime the bulb. Thre could also be some "gunk" in the pickup tube.

I would get a 5 gallon plastic tank and connect the bulb to that, if it primes and the motor runs, tank/pickup tube issue, if it doesn't, bulb/line/quick connect issue.

Happened to me right after I got my 1980dlx with the zuk 115. I forgot to open the vent on my gas lid. The tank had all of the air sucked out of it and literally ran the motor out of gas even though I had over a half a tank. Just my two cents.

Yeah, I checked the vent. One thing I forgot to mention was thast the engine cover was really hot to the touch when I went to remove it.

Did the overheat alarm sound?

No it justseemed hotter than I thought it should. Went back and tried theball again. I took the top off the gas tank and still could not get it firm. When I managed to get a small amount to the motor it did start but cut off pretty quickly.

Could be something simple like a clogged pickup tube or, like Loki says, an air leak in the line. If you've got a quick disconnect at the tank, there has been a great deal of discussion on the forum regarding problems created by this little piece of hardware. Should be simple to tell if you're getting gas up to the motor. If not, then a clog, air leak, or faulty quick disconnect may be the issue. Quick disconnects have been know to produce "intermittent" stalling and cutting off.

Did you ever get the motor to re-crank?

BTW, my DF 115 cowling is pretty hot to the touch too after being run a while and especially in this hot weather. Black cover doesn't reflect the heat.

Keep us posted.

Okay guys I just replaced the quick disconnect with a nipple and clamp and it seems to have fixed the problem. I also installed a fuel/water seperator while I was at it. It seems like the tanks in these skiffs are kind of *** backwards leaving the hose to have a funky twist and this is causing the quick disconnect to fail. The guys at the Suzuki dealership were well aware of my problem and it seems to be prevelant.

Looks like to me they riggers would just get rid of the quick disconnects when they set these boats up. Some do, some don't. Mine came without one, and I would pull if off if it had one. There's been too much discussion of problems caused by this unnecessary connector.

My quick disconnect went to the garbage can two weeks after I had my skiff it went bad that quick. By the way it went bad after taking the crumb snatchers tubbing too..If any of you still have your quick connect on, do yourself a favor and use it as a sinker. Other than that nothing else has gone bad (except me) and been skiffing right along.
