I started installing a stereo yesterday. I bought this from Shoreway Marine :

(BTW Shoreway is a great place - they have a huge catalog with everything under the sun in it)
I am mounting it in the starboard side of the console. Its the only resonable location for it that I could come up with. The downside is that the side of the radio case is exposed inside the console and potentially could get some spray on it. I guess I will see. I'll take some pics when I am done.

Filet1,
How did this setup work for you. I have a meduium console and I'm trying to decide how and where I want to install CD player. Many thanks.

Herf - the setup is fine. I would have preferred a cover that completely encloses the stereo, as it is suceptible to rust as it is now.

Hey Fillet1
I had a kick azz system on my last boat....never..never again...kids and people fighting over what to listen to and how loud to play it...just like home...lol...I will take mother natures sounds...good conversation(that everyone is to busy to have at home) and even some good old fashion quite when Iam out by myself..Dont get me wrong I love music and play several instruments, but found out I hate it on the water...screaming to be heard over the jam....BoogieBlues

I will take mother natures sounds
Couldn't agree more - never have given a thought to installing a stereo on my skiff.

Guys I agree. I find that I dont turn it on when fishing. It gets used when getting the boat loaded to go fishing and when cleaning it. Once in a blue moon i'll flip it on for a ride back in.
If I could undo the install I would. One of my few regrets. It does give my son something to play with though. ;D

AMEN Brother. I've got one on the pontoon boat mostly just to listen to the races when out puttin around. NOT going to put one on the skiff.

I'm with you guys... just the sounds of nature and the water lapping up under the boat suits me just fine. But... I do remember the time I was running out of Hatteras on a buddies boat at 5:30AM, the sun just edging up over the horizon, and he pops in James Brown "I feel Good" and cranks that puppy wide open. It sure woke my azz up and kicked in the vibe for the day. We caught a cooler full of Mahi on water slick and clear as glass. Some things you never forget.

I HAVE to play "nothing else matters" every time i go out fishing, so i have to have a stereo, the rest of the day 90% stays shut.

"A Pirate looks at 40" (Jimmy Buffet) a slow cruise and nice sunset, doesn't get much beter than that. 012
Besides, when your cruising you can't hear mother nature anyway, I don't care HOW quite they make them 4 strokes.. ;D J/K
Now stopped and fishing, it's all about the focus for me. That's when I tune the radio out & mother nature in... thumbsup
