I'm thinking about getting an Eagle Cuda 240s GPS/FF. (Small combo unit with b/w screen) The price is right and it will fit my needs I think. Anyone have one or know someone that does?

Hello, I use a Lowarance M68c scrolling map, w/t. And even though it isn't a big screen, it works good.
Please examine all your options, then pick what is right for you.

I looked at the M68C also. The Eagle I'm looking at is the black and white version of the M68.

It shows everything the same way, only in various shades of grey/black. My Lowrance LMS480 is also a greyscale screen, not nearly as easy to read as color (a huge difference on GPS/mapping). I can record my sonar on SD cards and play back on the computer using the Lowrance Sonar Viewer and convert everything to color.......if given the choice, I would go color, but you're looking at an additional $200, minumum. Eagle is made by Lowrance, and many of their products spec's are identicle for sister products (other than the housing color, I couldn't find a difference between the Eagle and Lowrance products I looked at).

chumhead,
Sound advice, color or not, it ain't gonna make the fish bite eitherway.
Knowing the fish are there-1,000,000 bucks
Finding what they hit on, PRICELESS
Mike, I'd go the b/w route, it's cost effective, and after learning to "read" it would be as effective as mine. Just 'cause it's color don't mean ya leave the book for it at home, trust me.

I had the CUDA 250 on my skiff. It was a good unit and easy to operate.
Eagle has a pretty good website, you can print the instruction manual if you
want to check out the features before you buy one.
I just upgraded to a lowrance color uint.

I guess I should change my wording....

I find the color units much easier to "see". I can read the sonar signals on either, but its much easier when you can see them more clearly, as with the color units. I have fished both, and personally would gladly spend the extra money in order to be able to more easily view the screen. I guess I'm just getting too old and my eyes are starting to fail me, lol.....
