View Full Version : 52lbs Blue Fin
The Blue Catfish I normally chase in my CS are still spawning so I went slumming and went 90 miles offshore out of Ocean City with a buddy - my first tuna ever - wore my narrow a$$ out!!!

Nice fish for sure. I have a question though. Was the fish worth the 90 mile offshore run?

Cheez,
You must have never strapped onto a Blue fin......
My wife says for the money I spend on gas, the boat, bait & tackle, I could have flounder in the freezer for years from the fish market. I say, "that's not the point honey" ... ;D

Well Harry I have never strapped onto any saltwater fish other than the stripers we have in the inland lakes around where I live. Gotta try it one day.*thumbsup*

Great fish Tawn!!!
I can't wait to hear about how it tastes...
Man that must've been a hell of a fight! What a work out!
For the first time in my life, I was seriously worried about being pulled out of the boat. They put a harness on me and the damn thing made a run and pulled me across the deck. After that I made them hook a lanyard on to ME!. I was hooked to the fish, the rod, reel and harness were hooked to me - I wanted something to hooking me to the boat - seen too many You Tube clips of people being yanked overboard. I couldn't lift my arms above my head for about 30 minutes afterwards. As if I needed another reason to stop smoking; that was it - couldn't breath by the time we had him gaffed. Cheeze, was it worth the 90 mile run offshore? Yes and no. Its something I can see doing every 6-8 weeks but its nice to launch the CS and be on 30+ lbs blue catfish within 10 minutes besides the fuel and financial investment requied to get into something like that on a regular basis would lead to divorce.

For me, in order to hook with that kind of fish i have to run 45 miles from my marina to Montauk, fill up again, go out 60-80 miles come back almost empty(around 250 gallons), worth it ? every single penny of it. I love it.

Great fish Tawn! Never caught a BFT but have battled with YFT off NC, and true Albacore off southern CA (boats run into Mexico waters) and I can say without doubt, there is no greater fighting fish (pound for pound) that swim the ocean, with more strength or lasting endurance than a tuna, of any variety. Way to hang in there Pal. *Cheers*

*Cheers*Nice fish! I've gone out of Destin with a couple of friends but caught Red Snapper, Grouper, Spanish, and King Machrel but never a tuna. Great Job!
