Still not wanting to cut large holes into my new boat, I purchased a piece of aluminum plate and mounted my stereo head unit to the plate

I filed down the edged so I wouldn't cut myself while fueling the tank, and thru bolted the mounting plate thru the old trim rivets that I drilled out

This unit also comes with a wired remote control with 20 feet of cord, and included a mount that fit the unused guage cutout on the factory pre-rig

This makes it much easier to operate the stereo without having to look under the console. If access is needed to the 12V outlet, the remote pops out of the holder and allows easy access (as well as 20 feet of wire to take the remote anywhere in the boat)

I mounted a short "rubber ducky" antenna that won't get in the way on the side of the console

And cut holes for the speakers on the sides of the console....there is plenty of clearance, even for the 27 gal gas tank

I mounted the speakers low enough so the sound will bounce off the hull and keep the sound in the boat, as well as provide better sound and stereo seperation (I used to install car stereos as well). Another trick to protect the gelcoat.......if you don't use a hole-saw, cover the area with masking tape, several inches past the area to cut in order to keep the jigsaw base from scratching the gelcoat
Hope this helps.....
