My friend Scott and I shrimped and fished Port Royal Sound here in S.C. usually put in at Parris Island landing (go look at the sattalite photos, on yahoo, I believe) in an 18' jon boat. MANY-MANY days and nights were spent here, tied off to the bridge to fish, trying all the grass beds for shrimp (many poles lost here, you just wouldn't believe how fast that water will come up).
I hooked a 45# (that's all I could get off the deck by myself, as Scott took a pic((looking for the pic)) there was @ 1/3 of him still on the deck, tail in the water the whole time. Wings at the body were in excess of 6" thick (no joke). At this point in time, EVERYTHING that took a hook was brought up for CLOSE inspection,in retrospect, a seasond hand could have saved the lives of many fish. Needless to say, the deck looked like we had slaughtered 2 deer ( he was brought in on "Cpt Hook", a pic should make it on here when the "better half" comes home from work) , blood from that ray was 1/4-3/8" thick on the floor, EVERYWHERE.
Now old Scott had been soaking his feet, as usuall, off the boat. We were on the "lookout" for baitfish being chased up into a cut in the bank, where we promply throw a shrimp topped with mullet fish finder rig at anything. We were both looking INTENTLY at a certin hole which had produced 3-4 fish that day, when a fin broke water BEFORE the baitfish had even broke the water, 6' or so from the cut, and came out of the water @ 1.5 foot BEFORE the back of a good sized bullshark broke the surface.
Scotty didn't put his hands in the water after that day, till we quit fishin together back in '94, seems alcohol got to be more important to Scott than anything else. A shame, one of the best guys on the planet too.
ya got a story, put it here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
