Ok guys. I bought a used J16 Carolina Skiff on a Magic Tilt Trailer. The winch mount, and bow stop combo is nothing to be desired, and I am trying to completely redo the whole front setup, but I am unsure of what parts I need to do it right to make it so that I can power the boat on the trailer, and also, use the winch without hitting the lip of the bottom of the boat. I am thinking throwing out this mount and getting another one is the way to go, but which one? I have seen a couple of "goal post" style bow stops that I like, but where do I get them, and what winch stands will they bolt to. I am attaching a picture of my current setup.

mine does the same thing. it is set up with the front bunks. i trimmed my bunks down smaller and flipped them upside down. this helped, but it'll still hang up on certain ramps and at lower tides. what i do is leave my bow hooked up, back down the ramp until the boat floats, then unhook the winch and lift the bow over the stop. i know it's a pain, and i plan on making something to fix it for good. but doing this will keep the bow from slamming down on the stop.

Here's a link to a video showing goal post style bow stop & how easy it launches my J16.

The goal post type worked best for my J16, and I tried everything. I made it out a pair of of 2x4s, used a longer bolt thru the same mount hole that the old rubber stop went, used the old rubber stop as a spacer, and a couple or U-bolts to position the 2x4s vertically - also fastened to the original mount. I'll get some pics of it when I clean it up a little - it's very functional now, but not real attractive.
Never hang at any ramp anymore, and I launch at a very steep one at times. Just remove the winch hook, tie a line from the bow to the trailer, and back down until she slowly floats off, then pull the trailer out enough so I don't have to get my feet wet pulling her around to tie up at the dock with the line I (hopefully) tied to the trailer.
