Went out with my uncle for the first fishing expedition around 4pm today. He pulled a skate for the first fish, and I commented that the stink was off, he responded that I was full of it since we were fishing for fluke. Less than 5 minutes later he had a short fluke, and that discussion was over.

We continued getting some hits and shorts, a couple sea robins, and I got my first two fluke in the boat. Later on I thought I hooked bottom, but when I went to break off the rig, it just stopped moving. Turned out to be a large dogfish, which was foul hooked, and was quite a time on light tackle.

All told, 6 short fluke, one keeper, two sea robins, two skates and a doggie.

A great trip, and the first of many I hope.

Fillet: Ya, my uncle doesn't flyfish, and I just wanted to go out for a shake down cruise. I'll get the flyrod out this week, I have to spend some time on the water finding the bass, or at least finding the spots on the flat I want to fish.

NEM: I was in the Gardiner's Bay area, where I'll be spending a lot of time this summer.
