My son and I went out Saturday morning to see what we could catch, the past 2 weekends have been pretty non-existent; last week we manged 3 non-keepers between 2 days :(
We hit the East Flats and found nothing but pin fish, I really need to pick up a Sabiki Rig this week and a tub of oats to pull some of those in for bait. So with nothing else biting we headed to the West Flats and after about an hour we pulled up nothing but floating grass.
On our way in we stopped at the mouth of the East River because we really wanted to catch something, anything. We did manage to find the following action in this area:
1 spotted trout - 18.5", so we have something to fry up.
4 channel cats
2 ladyfish
I pulled in the trout using a jig with a 4" DOA Glow Minnow on the bottom, the channel cats were caught with a 3" Gulp New Penny Shrimp under a popping cork and the lady fish were caught on a gold spoon.
Not alot of action but it was a great morning with my son.
We are looking forward to the tide change next month. The way the tides have been lately is low tide at daybreak followed by high tide 5 hours later with only a 1 foot difference between the two, so in a way it is one long "slack tide". At least scalloping season starts in a few weeks :)
