Fished both Sat & Sun in a 2 day flounder tournament. Saturday we had a decent day with over 40 fish caught and 4 keepers, here in NJ they must be at least 17".
We three 19" fish and a 24 incher. He was 4.7 pounds and I was in first place with it for the adult catagory as the first dat ended, and my son had first for youth with a 2 pounder.
Second day was snotty with a full moon rip current, heavy blow & a TON of boat traffic. We only had about 15 fish and one 18" keeper.
At weigh in time I was knocked down to third. The first place fish was 6.8 & the second place fish went 5.5.
My son's fish held up and he got 1st and $75 bucks and I got $50. But I did win the 50/50 which paid $67 ;D which we split.
Here's a picture of my boy holding the 4.7 pound fish........

The higher your post count gets the better your ranking will be 8). You need two arms to cut bait, but 1 finger to type (if you type like me) ;D

Yep....it was a Snook, and believe it or not, it was my first snook ever at 41.5 inches! George Shaafsma (sp?) (the camera man for Addictive Fishing TV) took my nephew and I out fishing the St. Lucie inlet on the Addictive Fishing Bay Ranger camera boat, and hooked that one at a spot called "the hole in the wall", locals will know where that is. I was using a large hand-sized pogie.
I have a friend arriving from Mississippi on Friday for 4 days of fishing, and is bringing his friend that is in the market for a new boat, my friend wants him to spend time on my 24DLX since thats what he wants him to get, lol..... hopefully I will have some more good pics to post!

Gimpy, when I'm on the water, I'm there to fish. It is rare for me to have a nip when there is fishing to be done! ;)
One of the reasons I enjoy fishing with chumhead so much is neither of us usually drink on the water. rare occasion, but it *has* happened... once or twice.
I've been on boats that the capt (loosley used term here!) was so drunk he couldn't stand up without the leaning post and steering wheel... oh, and did I mention the time of day? Oh no, not at 5pm on the way in... try, 9 or 10 am when we are still attempting to troll up some fish! I swear when he got like that, I's drop 2 lines max. when he was "sober" (read, buzzed) we could manage to run a 4 line spread plus shotgun. He;d get up at 4am and pop his firs nat lite and not stop until he passed out that evening after fishing.
Now, I also rarely drink on shore too, but on the rare occasion I decide to tie one on, I've been known to drink a fifth of good rum (read: flavored and 60 proof, virgin islands or hawaiian rum) and not miss a lick. Stagger around, slurr a little, but well aware of the fact I'm too drunk to drive, and not call in from work the next day.
Usually I just enjoy a wee nip with friends to set the mood.

Yep, think I've had 2 beers in the last 6 months, just never aquired a taste for the stuff in bulk.
As for the VS channel, I have all but written them off.....they have turned into the "Cycling, hockey and ulitmate fighting channel". Thank goodness we have the Florida Sun Sports channel here.....8 hours of saltwater fishing shows every Thursday, Friday and Sunday!!!!! I also have the Sportsman Channel from Midnight to 6 AM, but I'm hard pressed to find anything that doesn't involve a turkey call right now. They run a couple of good shows in the wee hours (thank goodness for DVR), but it is mostly geared for hunting.

I agree with Trim & Chum. I can't fish and drink.
1) The sun will roast you and you feel like crap.
2) I'm WAY to focused on fishing to, (see above) feel like crap when doing one of my favorite things. ;D
Now when the boats safely back in port, that's a different story..... ;)

07-27-2007, 03:29 PM
While taking a little "nip" while fishing IS enjoyable, the way I feel when I get back home after being in the sun and on the water for 8 or 9 hours is NOT. I pretty much stick to Gatorade or Powerade during the warm months, and maybe some ice tea. Soda's and other carbonated beverages leave me draggin' at the end of the day as well.
Thanks for the compliments Sportskiff, and if I have not said it already, any time you find yourself down this way, with a little advanced notice for scheduling purposes, we can easily get you out fishing. While it might look like we take it seriously, we're mainly in it for the fun and enjoyment.....a little sumptin' for dinner is just an extra!

Trim-Tab and I were finally able to get back out for some fishing. Hit our usual spot just as some divers were packing up to leave, and they mentioned a 150 lb grouper they had seen below (we heard the same from 2 other groups of divers as well). After several mangrove snapper and short red snapper, Trim-Tab manages to find this 'big boy' and proceeds to bend his new true-temper custom rod into shapes I didn't think possible. It ended up getting into the wreck and not giving up, but sure did put a hurting on ol' Trim-Tab, lol....
We also had a large baracuda take up residence under the boat, relieving us of several fish as we tried to get them up past him. Then.....my flat line goes off and a large 'cuda goes sky-rocketing 8 to 10 feet into the air. I manage to land him and snap a few pics before releasing him.....
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/chumhead/PICT0003-8.jpg
Figuring we were finally rid of our "fish bandit", we continued fishing. A little while later I bent over the side to rinse some fish slime off my hands, when a head twice the size of this one....
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/chumhead/PICT0004-3.jpg
peeked out from under the boat, directly between my feet. Turns out I had caught a different, much smaller 'cuda and not our problem fish. Needless to say...... I washed my hands off in the livewell for the rest of the day. Never did manage to get rid of the big 'cuda.

I committed the cardinal sin...
I placed the rod in the rod holder and turned around. I always advise AGAINST that practice, and this hook-up was exactly why.
By the time the rod bounced and I could get to it, it was too late... Earl was headed home. The 1st 5 to 10 seconds is the most critical in a grouper bite... Have to get them boys turned towards you and headed your direction before they know what hit 'em. I've seen experienced Bottom Bumpers pull in 60# fish without much hassle, just some sweat... I've see the same size fish "Pin" a grown man to the gunnel, holding on for dear life to save his rod, and then have to work for about 30 minutes to coax that bad-boy out of his hole. The difference? The first 10 seconds of the fight. ;) Can you guess who was holding the rod and was ready for the strike?

But Yeah, I'm better now. was a bit sore and crampy in places I forgot I had from holding massive pressure on him while he was holed up. Knot Failure finally ended the ordeal. I know this because I was bouncing my weight to annoy him and I didn't have a bead above my swivel (another sin!) and the knot came loose above the swivel...
Because I was bouncing a 10oz lead right down on the knot without a bead to protect it. 001
I'm gonna have to make up some rigs with instructions and pictures (or diagrams) for those who have no idea about what I'm talking about, or would like to compare rigs.
