Sure would be nice to have some flashing / blinking thingy when you have new messages. I usually go directly to today's posts when I login, and frequently don't realize I have new PMs until days later.

Just go to your UserCP and turn on PM pop-ups and the option to get emailed when you get new PM's.

Also in the upper right side of the screen, between menu bars, where it says "Welcome bobreeves" it also tells you the number of unread PM's.
