Greetings, fellow boaters,

I just joined the CSO forum today and have perused it for a few weeks. I recently purchased a 2007 J14 used and in showroom condition for what I think was a good price. It is a more versatile boat than the larger one I have (not a CS) and will undoubtedly get more use. It will be used in the Beaufort/Shackleford, NC area. Being a novice boater, this will be a great new venture for me and my family. I look forward to making some new friends here, learning a lot and I'm glad to be on board.

Thank you to you who have left thoughtful messages here. I already feel welcome. I am a 48 year old married father of 2 who moved to NC from Mass. in 2005. We live and work in Cary full time and have a waterfront home with a modest concrete boat ramp on the North River in Beaufort. Our bigger boat was made by a competitor and was a good deal for us. It is too much boat for every time out so I got us the J14 and have just in the past 2 weeks added stern rails (ordered from Raymond Martin, WOW!) and after my large front deck comes in at Chatlee, will add that and the bow rails. I last ran boats around a lake in Maine when I was 10 or so and this time here has been the ultimate time trip.

I am anxious to get my sons, ages 12 and 14, more interested in the lifestyle. I would thoroughly enjoy the chance to see any of you around the Crystal Coast area this coming summer. Thanks already to many of you who have offered some great tips on this forum, among which are the ones on how to fill wrongly drilled holes in the gunwhale.

Glad to have you aboard Redbeard. I don't live in NC, but I have drilled a lot of holes in the hull where they don't belong. I'm a rookie, so you can only get one-timer advice from me, but the people on this site have a wealth of info they for some reason are willing to give away for free. From simple to Electrical Engineering, it's all right here. If you have any questions, post them, you will be happily surprised to find the answers to your questions at your fingertips a short time later.

Welcome aboard Redbeard. *Cheers*

Thanks for supporting the site! *thumbsup*

I'll be gettin' an email out to ya in a day or two to welcome you to the Crystal Coast Chapter. I'll also catch you up with a copy of a few (past) email letters I sent out to the other men that you might find useful/interesting. We have several local members and as many who commute here often as they can. I haven't heard of any that fish the skinny waters of North River but it's just a left turn out of Taylor's Creek for me when I launch from my favorite ramp in Beaufort.

The Crystal Coast members try and get together about once a month but any time you're coming down, announce it on the CCC of CSO board and it's a good bet someone will be around to meet and/or fish with you if you want some company. *014*
