Hey Guys and Gals
Ok I went fishing last week on my friends boat...He has just installed a XL power pole with remote...Wow...I love that dang thing...We were fishing boat docks...points...and feeder creek coves...When we found some fish that thing would stop on a dime and hold us there with a push of a button with no noise...It was way to cool...but expensive...like $2000 installed...OK who has one and what do you think of them...I think they would be great on the flats...Brian..218 elite...was that a power pole bracket I saw in one of the pics of Your boat on the motor mount?..Since my son is in the Army now and I will be fishing a lot by myself I think I would realy like one...I can see myself sitting up on the front deck in my comfy seat with my Minn Kota remote and a remote power pole...killing the redfish on the Bay in Appalachicola this fall....If they keep making things like these I might be able to fish for 20 more years...A big ole fat guys dream....Now if I could only find an automatic boat launcher and retrever I would be in Heaven...lol
OK who out there wants one besides me?

Boogie,
I guess I'd like to have a power pole but at my age I don't know what I'd do with it.

Boogie,
I was on a friends 21 or 22 ft Mako not to long ago and he has a power pole. I was extremely impressed with how well (and how quickly) it works. I've got a j16 and I expect to do most of my saltwater fishing in very shallow water, and would love a power pole--but on a j16? I will not be spending the money, but if I had one of those big DLV's.......
I have had visions pass through my head of a miniature power pole type setup, maybe with some kind of hand crank system. Did I see some where you were a truck driver? What about a ratchet style load lock as a design basis? Just one of the out of the box ideas I have from time to time.

hey
Its not the boat winching that gets to me its getting in and out of the boat when I launch and load up by myself...Here is an idea for a shallow water anchor for your J16..I hear they work pretty good and not real expensive...I use to have an old redneck or some call it a cajun anchor...was a 6ft piece of SS rod with a ring on the end...was heavy and hard to store...but worked....this looks like it solves that problem...Its called a Stick It..

Yeah that looks functional, but the great thing about the power pole is how it stows itself. Where am I going to put that thing, and is it going to be any easier to use than a mushroom achor with a short rode?

Hey Work
well its made out of fiberglass so its light and strong...Quiter and quicker and easyer to use...It has clips to clip it to the side gunnell...If I cant afford a power pole by next fall I might try one....

You can find them for less than $1k, and they're pretty easy to install. They work great.

Hey
The best price I have seen so far is around $1250 for the six foot model plus $250 to get the remote...the eight foot model is about $200 more...Yep i think I could put it on myself and save a few bucks...oh yeah if you need a bracket to mount it thats about $150...I saw one for $800 it was a floor model and had some scratchs on it...It was gone before I could burp...

Check out this option for shallow water anchoring:

Sorry guys...

I do not get time to hit all the links on the forum. I have the 8ft Power Pole on the Ranger and on the C/S. Yes, they are an expensive option! But, I think they have paid for themselves already. Both have the wireless remote option too. It's nice when I'm waiting to load up at the end of the day and the wind tries to blow you around, I push the button on the dash and hold my spot until the trailer is in the water. *thumbsup*

We put the one on the Elite ourselves. My dealer put the bracket on when he was rigging the boat. I have hydraulic jack plates (6" and 10") on boat boats too. There is no conflict either.

i will be getting one very soon! they are so worth it! i fish a lot of very shallow flats and creeks and not having to drop the anchor to stop would help keep the noise down. when i had my J16 i kept a small mushroom anchor coated in that vinyl rubber stuff on a short 10' rope. when i wanted to stop, i'd drop that over and it would hold the boat no problem. kinda a poorman's power pole. there is also a product out called the "Wang Anchor" it is basically a small pole with a point and it has a round mount that attaches to your stern and you slide to pole thru the Wang Anchor and into the bottom.

I'm really liking the way the wang anchor looks. Has anybody used one?

What will we think of next?

I think a power pole is the cat's meow for shallow water fishing on soft bottom.

Unfortunately I can't afford one and even if I could 50 lbs is a lot of weight add to the stern of my boat. I'm not liking the idea. Maybe if I could mount one on the bow or on the side... but even then I can envision trying to use it on solid rock bottom. I don't think it would be as quiet as a mushroom anchor on a good length of rope.

It does not weigh anywhere close to 50 lbs...even when you count the pump! It's more like 20 lbs. ;D
