Hey
Ok iam finishing up installing my rails...they are held in the mounts by set screws...The SS rails are 316 thick walled and realy hard...the set screws hold them tight...
But Iam always worrying about stuff and I know what a beating boats take Do You guys think it would be better to drill holes and use SS self tapping screws to hold it in the mounts?,,,or Iam I overkilling it here...Iam Prone to overkill...On my boat and Harley...hate stuff falling off or coming lose when Iam using it...Any thoughts appreciated

Usually are two screws per post, what i would do tight all of them, then remove them, and where the scew made a mark on the rail, go with a drill bit a little to make a dimple kinda(one on each rail post), then re-install the set screws with red thread lock.Self tapping screw WILL eventually get loose cause gets screwed on the rail post, which is a movable part.
I hope you understood of what i wrote here. *008*

Hey NEM
got Ya.....make an indentation with the drill so the set screw will hold the rail better...than loktight the set screws...That sounds like a winner...plus no screw heads sticking out of the holders...Me and My Harley Love locktight.....lol...Better than bailing wire and tar tape...Thanks for the good Idea....BoogieBlues
