I am looking to mount a couple of flush mount rod holders on the stern of my DLV. On the battery hatch side I think I can reach through the hatch and up under the holder to install through bolts. The other side where the storage is is another story. How have you guys mounted and accessed under the bottom to install nuts up near where the anchor light is. My arm is way too short and doesn't bend the way it would need to for this. Maybe I could find a small child to reach up in there but they might not be inclined enough mechanically to screw the nuts on and tighten them.
Thanks

A rachet set with a very long extention.
Drill all your holes, put the rodholder in place, put the nut in the socket and line it up with the hole, then tie the bolt by hand couple of turns then repeat 5 more times(if two rod holders) then secure all of them.

Come on NEM get creative.
How about use 5200 and screws. Drill the holes. Install with 5200. Insert the screws hand tight. Then sit back and let the 5200 cure.;D
Or, use bolts and epoxy the nuts to washers then contact cement/rubber glue the washers and nuts to the underside of the deck, insert the rod holder, tighten and again hope you never have to get them loose.
I'm supprised that no one has made a compression anchor of some kind for marine installations.

I called my dealer because even with a long extension I can't contort myself in there to get the nuts on. He said they use self tappers and 5200. Hopefully the top corner of the stern deck is thick enough for this.

The problem here is he cannot get to the rod holder with his hands. If he could, he wouldn,t have to put 5200 and epoxy etc etc, all he had to do is connect the nut with bolt ;D simple. *001*

Cheez,
Here's a post by brokebeach5011 showing what he did. If he's monitoring this thread maybe he can elaborate.
I have holders on the rails and two flush mounts in the back deck.

That would be doable for me but my pedestal seats are in that area. The place I want to mount mine are on the top corner next to where the anchor light is mounted.

N, think about it...
Before he puts the rod holder in he has a 2"hole to work through....
Do you understand?
Use the 2"hole to glue the nut and washer to the underside of the deck. Then insert the rod holder into the 2" hole. The nuts are there ready and waiting.
Baring a cross thread and with the addition of some liquid lock tite to the bolt, all is good.

Big Will, your idea works! That is exactly how I installed my flush mount rod holders in the corners in the back deck. It was easy and they are still holding tight. *thumbsup*

Don't thank me yet. You'd better check with Gunnar and find out what he did to make it work.
I have a feeling lock washers and nylock nuts are out of the question, but I don't know I've never tried it.
Good Luck...*008*

I used a regular washer and nut[ss] bonded to each other with 3m 4200 and then bonded the washer to the underside of the deck with the 4200 and held it in place with a piece of masking tape. I used 4200 because it has a faster curing time. Also was careful to not get any into the threads of the nut. The next day with a liberal dose of lock-tite the machine screws went in. I was afraid to use a lock-nut or washer and torqueing it loose and then not being able to tighten the screw down. So far so good.
I do have to say that on one holder I put to close to the edge and was not able to do this for one of the screws. There was less than a 1/2" from the hole for the screw to the hull. On this one I used a regular[ss] 3/4" screw a small pilot hole and a good amount of the 4200. I forgot the golden rule of measure twice and cut once and it almost bit me.
