Fished two days this past week: Wed and Fri. Caught a few trout and short reds both days. Spent most of Wed breaking in. Nice weather both days, but fishing has cooled off apparently. Fished along side two other boats Friday and we had only 6-8 trout among us.

i've actually never fished as far north as horseshoe. i like suwannee a lot! there's a bunch of good redfish up there. hopefully this is the last cold front and the fishing will get back to their normal spring patterns. the trout around crystal river have been all screwed up by this hot/cold/hot/cold weather!

Yes, here we go again. It's supposed to be in the 30's again tonight and back to the 80's by Friday. The Trout we caught all had roe, so they are aware it's spring. However, everything has not settled out. In fact, one of my fishing buddies caught 5 NICE keepers in one of the creeks south of Suwannee Friday. That was only one fish less than we had between three boats on the flats.

As for fishing this area, it's like any other area of the Big Bend. There are some shallow areas that will really ground you if you don't take it easy and learn the ropes. I fish south of Suwannee a lot for reds in the summer and trout in the creeks during the fall. Most of the flats fishing I do in this area is "up north" in the Horseshoe area. There are also some good redfish bars in and around the Shired Island area, but, again, this area can be trecherous if you go at it too hard.
