Welcome New Member!
Intro:
You've already figured out that Carolina Skiff Owner is the best place on the Internet for information on how to work on and trick out your Carolina Skiff or Sea Chaser. Now here's some ways that you can help us help you.
Profile:
First, please make sure your profile has been completely filled out. We really need to know your location so that any advice given to you has relevance to where you live and/or do your boating. If you're not comfortable giving out your specific location, then a general area will do, for example; "Central FL". You can modify your location via your User CP (Control Panel). Just click 'User CP' on the Navigation Bar, then click 'Edit Your Details' under 'Your Profile' and in the 'Additional Information' window you can enter your location.

Don't forget to visit our Member's Map (http://www.carolinaskiffowner.com/vbgooglemapme.php?) and mark your location with a push pin.
Signature Line:
Next, tell us what model boat and motor you have or what you're intending on buying. You can put that information in your signature line in your profile. Just take a look at what others have done and follow suit. This helps us to give you specific advice based on your boat's configuration. You can modify your signature via your User CP (Control Panel). Just click 'User CP' on the Navigation Bar (as shown above), then click 'Edit Signature' under 'Settings & Options' and you can then compose and format your signature in the text editor.
Remember business related URL's are not allowed in your signature line unless you're a paid sponsor. Links and URL's to a non-business, (i.e. personal home page, photo album, etc.) are also not permitted.
Posting Guidelines:
Familiarize yourself with the site's Posting Rules and Guidelines (http://carolinaskiffowner.com/forumdisplay.php?f=23). You'll find that CSO is a family friendly place. Please help us keep it that way by following the intent of the guidelines. Certain sections may have specific guidelines only relevant to that area. For example, the Dock Sale will have the instructions specific to the personal buying and selling of goods and equipment. As you learn your way through each section and forum take a few minutes to review the posting guidelines for that area. If you see an offensive post or one that violates our posting guidelines, then feel free to report it by using the 'Report Post' link in the upper right hand of each individual post window.

Search Tool:
Learn how to use the search tool. Just click the Search item in the Navigation Bar and you can enter the keyword(s) of interest to you, example; 'Transom Saver'. Chances are the topic has been discussed many times and the information you seek is already there. If you need to post an inquiry make sure it is in the appropriate forum.
Member Ranks:
While viewing a post, you may notice a special name (ranking) under each member's screen name. Your status as a member here at Carolina Skiff Owner is determined by the number of posts that you have submitted. The more posts, the higher your ranking. Your privilege level for certain features at the site will change based on your status. A special group has been designated for Site Supporters and Site Sponsors. A Site Supporter is one that has donated money to help offset the operational expenses of running the site. A Site Sponsor is a paid advertiser. These special groups are allowed additional privileges. Here is a table outlining the various ranks and privileges.
User Group|Posts Before Advancement|Stored PM|# PM's can send at a time|Photo Posting
Tadpole|0|6|1|No
Minnow|5|6|1|Yes
Bait Cutter|10|50|5|Yes
Salty Dog|40|50|5|Yes
First Mate|80|50|5|Yes
Captain's Member|140|100|5|Yes
CSO Supporter|Immediately|250|5|Yes
Posting Pictures:
We love to see pictures of your boat and your catch. One of the great features of this site is the ability to create photo albums and linking a picture or your album in one of your posts. You can also use a photo hosting site and link to them as well. One of our favorite sites is PhotoBucket (http://photobucket.com/). See this topic (http://carolinaskiffowner.com/showthread.php?t=1101) for instructions on how to upload and link your photos using PhotoBucket. If you have numerous photos to share then a link to your album would be appropriate. Be considerate of those that have slow connection speeds. Note: New members are required to make a minimum number of text posts before they can post pictures or create a photo album. This is for Spam prevention reasons. The required post count is small, so keep on posting and this feature will be available to you shortly.
Test Posts:
If you need to practice posting photos or formatting your post then the No Wake Zone (http://carolinaskiffowner.com/forumdisplay.php?f=49) is the place for test posting. When creating a new post you can use the 'Preview' button to see how it will look before actually saving it. Every member has the ability to edit his/her own post so feel free to fix something in your original post rather than appending another message.
Information Exchange:
When referring members to another topic be sure to include a link to the topic rather than telling them to go look in another section. Weeks or months down the road that particular topic may be buried deep in the pile and hard to find. To include a link, go to the topic of interest, right click the URL in your browser's Navigation area. It should look something like; http://www.carolinaskiffowner.com/showthread.php?p=18278#post18278 . Select copy from the pop-up menu, then in your new posting, right click in the text editor window and select paste from the pop-up menu. That should include the URL in your new posting.
When posting and including information from another source then provide a link or reference to that source so that the original author gets credit. Quoted snippets from other sources are ok (with references). The wholesale posting of copyrighted material is not.
Private Messages:
We have a Private Messaging system for communicating to other members or staff. You should use this when giving out personal information such as addresses and phone numbers. This is a public forum and any information that is posted in the forums is "publicly" accessible. Data from this site is regularly scanned and recorded by major search engine sites such as Google and Yahoo. If you don't want your personal information being available via a search engine, then don't post it in a public forum. Note: New members may have restrictions on the number of recipients that PM's that can be sent to. A minimum post count is required before the restrictions are lifted. This is for Spam control reasons.
Our Mission:
Our mission is to provide you with the most and the best user contributed information for Carolina Skiffs and Sea Chasers. This site is independently owned and member supported. This allows us to have free discussion on dealer performance and boat pricing without being under the scrutiny of a sponsor. The information gained here can literally save you thousands of dollars in your boat buying effort. We would like to encourage you to help further this cause by becoming a Site Supporter. Just click the Donate button that you see at the Carolina Skiff Owner's home page (http://www.carolinaskiffowner.com/index.php?).
Need Help?:
You can post technical support inquiries and suggestions in the Site Support & Suggestions forum (http://www.carolinaskiffowner.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21). For instructions on how to use the features of this web site, visit the FAQ by clicking the FAQ link (http://www.carolinaskiffowner.com/faq.php) on the Navigation Bar for detailed information. And as always, if you require any personal assistance then don't hesitate to contact a Moderator (http://www.carolinaskiffowner.com/showgroups.php).
We're glad that you decided to join us and we welcome you to the Carolina Skiff Owner web site.
