Working on setting it up so we can post our location in our profile or having it so you can see it near your user name.
Until then since were all fairly new to one another I figure I'd start it off.
I'm a Journeyman Lineman and work for the Atlantic City Electric Co.
I live in south Jersey and do most of my fishing behind the barrier Islands from AC to Ocean City.

I am a dealership mechanic and live just south of Tampa. Own a 24dlx and love it. 4th boat I have owned (all deep-v) this is the first skiff. Use it for offshore diving in the gulf up to 20 miles out on good days. I can honestly say I am happier with this boat then all others, though it is ugly compared to the others LOL.

Realestate in SW Missouri trying to quit. Marshfield, MO 20 miles east of Springfield on I-44. Planning on setting up a 1965 or a 19ft Panga. The CS has the nod right now, roomier, safer, tough, strong, lightweight for its size. My interest in fishing as I said somewhere else on here is Hybrid Stripers-Stripers-Freshwater Drum and Catfish in that order. In 11 years I'll be eighty if that tells you anything. LOL

what a bunch so far, I hang out in Camden, S.C. , retired , have since learned to do the "domestic" stuff around the house. (am I the only one to do a load of clothes and have the wife a brand new set or three of pink socks?) Am getting to really know my kids now, JEEZZZZZ. Thank the heavens they don't look like me. (I am short and ugly) Skiff is a year old now,and still putting on the pounds. (and strangly , so am I , so I guess I am short, fat, and ugly) The raven black hair has now thinned and my head gets sunburnt, now a mix of white, clear and brown, mustashe now looks like i forgot to wash my face after drinking 3 glasses of milk. The only fish in the lake are within 2' of my bobber/lure according to my youngest son. ( i have learned to instantly duck after i cast, then the "wizzzzz" sound goes by, a lesson it didn't take long to learn, trust me) The wife catches the biggest bass, please note the sore spot under my nose. I used to spend 12-18 hrs a day as a iron worker/welder, pipefitter/welder,aircraft mechanic/builder/welder. 7 days a week usually (didn't see my kids for years, wife went thru college then too) Doc retired me at 37 with degenaritv disc and bone disease, so many "osiss's" we ain't got paper to put em down on. And now I have a hump on my back, have shrunk 2 1/2", arms a bit longer than somebody my size , so I am humped,gorilla-armed,short,fat, and ugly. Hows that for a bit about me?
all true
thanks old ranger

Well i just joined since i just bought my skiff. Its a '96 model 16, an older man had it, has had less than 18 gallons of gas ever run through it and has never spent the night outside. I just moved down here to savannah back in january and had to finally get a boat. I am a student in marine biology and work for the GA DNR/Coastal Resources doing research on redfish. I see that alot of ou guys are into hot rods, and that happens to be another hobby of mine, Ive got an old nova that was my first car and just bought a '63 shortbed fleetside C10 to start restoring for my dads retirement gift. I hope my skiff turns out to be as great as i think it is. I plan to use it mostly inshore and of course to run to some islands to have a day on the beach when the lady wants to. Its got a 40hp Mariner which i dont know if i like, im an OMC kinda guy but hopefully this thing can give me a few years. as you see i can talk just about to anyone about anything. see ya guys!
Welcome aboard Fayetteguy and thanks for sharing a little about yourself. I can tell just by your attitude and interest that you'll fit right in to our growing community.

Been living in Orlando since 1971 and moved down here from Detroit right after I graduated from High School. I work for a privately owned electro-mechanical power transmission distributor based out of Orlando with 18 branches around the state. Been working there since 1972 and worked my way up the ranks. Now I am the technical support mgr for the northeast part of the state covering from Orlando up to Jax. That being said, one of my guys up in Jax took me saltwater fishing 10 years ago out of Oak Harbor and he put me on my first redfish. I was still using freshwater baitcasters and I took a blue giant Johnny Rattler out of my tackle box and threw it a few feet from the shoreline. As I was getting the rats nest out of the reel, my buddy asked me what I expected to catch on that ugly thing. Well, about the time he said that, and also finishing up getting the rats nest out, there was a big crash on my lure. It ended up to be my first redfish at 27" long. I was hooked for good on saltwater fishing after that. Since then I bought my 1655DLX with the 40Hp yammy on it four years ago and been having a blast! Fish mostly out of Titusville and Mosqito lagoon, and several times a year over in Steinhatchee.

Welcome Redfish ,
Glad to see you are jumping right in, fits like a glove, don't it? IF ya happen to have a crawfish pie reciepie, would ya share it? (I can remember a certain such pie in Lafayette and Houma, spicy and just the best meal EVER!!!!!!especially with a lot of cold beer) Blackened redfish reciepie would go over big in the "cook book" section too!!!!! (BTW)
I spent some quality time in south La, (used to work for Marlin Drilling, in the gulf) shure enjoyed the time there, and the food was the best , spicy was the rule then, and the crawfish pie ruled!!!!!!! It shure beat shuckin crawfish, I could eat FASTER with no shell in the way!!!!!!
OH, fer those of you that don't know, crawfish pie is kinda like pot pie, cept it is a whole lot better and SPICY with a lot of garlic and onion, sometimes with shrimp too, but I liked the straight crawfish pie much better!!!!!!! (pardon me for drooling on yer floor...........)

I'm a retired Air Force radio technician in Warner Robins, Georgia now working for the Air Force repairing F-15 avionics. Just bought an 08 198 DLV with 90hp Evinrude Etec. Took it out for the first time today and loved it. I can keep it on plane at 20 and it tops out at 39. We needed a combination pleasure/fishing boat that would hold more than 6 and the DLV fits the bill. Just need that set of deck cushions to soften the ride for the kids and everyone will be happy.

Hello everyone. I just joined the group a few minutes ago. My name is Jim, and I've been retired for five years from UPS. I live an hour inland from Norfolk, Virginia, out "in the sticks". My wife and I boat/fish primarily in the Albemarle/Chowan watershed, with a little bit of fishing on the Virginia Eastern Shore.
I'm the worse fisherman in the state, if not the whole USA. We have a CS 24, and really like poking around in the shallow, snah infested areas in Eastern North Carolina.

I live on North Padre Island in Corpus Christi, Tx. I live on the backside of the island with a boat dock as my back yard. The canal we are on connects with the Laguna Madre. It is the waterway between Padre island and the mainland. I own a landscape business here on the island.
I just purchased my first Carolina Skiff 17. It has a Suzuki 75 HP engine. The hull is a 1994 and the engine I believe is a 1996. It has been out of the water for 3 years but was in good running condition when taken out. I am anxious to get into it and get it running. Overall boat is in good condition. The engine is the only question. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I plan on buying a repair manual and I have several friends who are good with engines to help out.

I live down on the gulf coast in a little town called Waveland. Unfortunately right about where the eye of Katrina came ashore and pretty much wiped out the entire town. My last boat was one of the few things I owned that survived but with all the rebuilding that needed to be done, I decided to sell it. I'm looking at DLVs now, really think I'm going to get me a 258DLV with twin Hondas on the back. I've been through several boats over my life and I really think the big DLV will be the best all around boat for what I want to do. Last boat was a 28' Lafite skiff, a commercial fishing boat from Louisiana where I grew up. Was a beautiful boat, straight inboard with a 1/2 cabin but at 28' x 11' and 5500 lbs was a bit much to trailer. Prior to that I had a 22' Aquasport cuddy cabin, also a great boat but a bit deep draft for fishing in the marsh. Had several smaller boats in the 18 foot range also. We have thousands of square miles of marsh to fish nearby in Louisana but its either a long trailer down there or a 10-12 boat ride across open water which is of course the desired way to go! Once in the marsh you need shallow draft but need enough boat to get across and back if the weather gets ugly. Also have a string of barrier islands that are great to fish or just visit, there again need a bigger boat to get out but shoal draft to get in to the islands. Thats why I'm thinking the DLV is gonna work out perfect for me. I also do a bit of offshore, and I think it will be enough boat for occasional runs out on a good day. Hope to make my mind up this week about the 258 DLV, tired of working on stuff, rebuilding after Katrina. I'm ready to go fishing again!

I guess it is time for me to intro myself. I am originally from Shelbyville Kentucky. Moved to Florida in 98. Lived here for 6 years then moved to Cullowhee North Carolina. Didn't like the weeather there so moved back to Florida. I am a building contractor working for a Construction Management firm in Sarasota. I have 3 kids, 1 of which is in college in NC, Victoria, Thomas and Zack. My wife is a CFO for a local nonprofit organization. We love taking the boys out to do different things. We thought a boat would be a good memory maker for them. I was raised on a boat in the summers in KY. So I have a lot of memories of an old Webbcraft.
Seatraveler I think you will be happy with either a 258 or a 238. These boats are so versatile. You can rigem how ever you want.
Best of luck to you rebuilding in La.

Hey,
I live in Southwestrn Pennsylvania and purchased my first boat in July. Prior to this I have never even been on a boat other than a large party boat out of Ocean City, MD. Periodically made the drive to Ocean City to surf cast but had a desire to get a little farther out in the water. I bought a 2001 2100 CC Off Shore Sea Chaser with a 175 hp Merc.
I own and operate my own company that manufactures fireworks, sells fireworks and I do fireworks displays. Planning on some fishing this fall in the Chesapeake Bay and would really like to try some off shore fishing as well.
Thanks,
Albert

lampare maker, Albert, welcome aboard to ya. Nice choice in boats you made there. Should serve you well. Both in the bay and for some offshore. Keep it safe and get some boaters safety courses in to help you along the way. Southwestern Pa, how long a drive to the salt water? I am up here in NEPA across the Susquehanna River from Wilkes-Barre. Again Welcome to ya Willie 010

New to this forum. Site looks GREAT! Retired from the Corps in 1990 and been working in the wood industry until this past August. Looking for work (kinda, sorta) but may start up my custom furniture/cabinet shop again soon. In the mean time, I just bought a DLV 218/Suz 140 and am looking forward to rigging it for inshore fishinig around the Beauford/Cape Lookout area of Eastern NC. My third boat since my relocation to this area in 1983 and I think this one is a definite "keeper". Had her out only twice now and not yet completed the full 10 hours break-in on the motor but I'm likin' everything about this boat so far! BTW, last two boats were a 21' Bayliner "Trophy" Cuddy and 21' SeaCraft CC. I'll be selling the SeaCraft real soon. Lookin' forward to posting some questions and learning from you guys - 'course I'll try and help where I can. THANKS FOR THIS FORUM 013

lampare maker, thats one heck of a ride, I thought the 3 hours I have to OC, NJ is long. I keep the boat in the campground that we go to, saves a lot of gas, course it means that when I am in NEPA, the boat is sitting in NJ. Gonna bring it home this weekend or next, and get a couple of rides, read fishing trips, on Harvey's lake up here.
Keep us posted and have fun..................gonna be a long winter for us guys in the north.........Willie 010

Hey Sarge... Beaufort/CALO is where I like to hang out. Heading down this weekend... let's hook up if ya can. Maybe you can show me where to catch some flounder. ;D
Hey Shakespear, sorry it took so long to respond – forgot where my first post was located – I’m getting’ old man!
Haven’t been on the water for a few years but I’m really looking forward to this fall season. The bite should be good this weekend as the weather is cooling down and should drive much of the bait fish/shrimp/crabs, etc. toward the inlets and get them on the feed. The best bite should be real early as the tide will be high at just after 0900. Then low hits us about 1500. If I have to fish on a slack tide, I prefer high. I’m looking for the fishing to pick up again about 12-1300 as the tide ebbs. Just about right for a near full day of fishing and a fairly early return home. When the tide is low in morning (as it will be the following weekend) I usually don’t hang around for the (high) tide change, especially on the weekend when it gets pretty congested on the water by 1000 or so. I’m really partial to a falling tide in this area. Usually I get out very early and often have enough fish in the box – knock on wood - before the sun gets too high.
Had my tow vehicle in the shop and just got it out today so I’m gonna take the boat out tomorrow for a scouting trip to try and locate some fish so I can (hopefully) get us (wife and I) on ‘em Saturday. Don’t know yet whether it’ll be Lookout or Beaufort area – maybe both, if I put in at the Beaufort ramp. My GPS/Sounder won’t be in ‘till Monday but my ICON M72 should arrive UPS today. My handle is “Sarge”. I’ll send you my cell# via email – give me a call and maybe we can hook up over the weekend and help each other get on some fish. The weather forecast leading up to and including this weekend couldn’t be any better, IMHO.

I get up to denville once in a while for work. Thats Morris County right?
I`m from Estero Fl. and Yalaha, Fl. Estero is just North of Naples and South of Fort Myers. When I`m there I fish out of Punta Rasa and Pine Island Sound to Boca Grande. I also trailer down to the Glades and fish out of Port of the Isles or the park. Depending on the season, I target reds, snook, trout and tarpon. I fish alone out of a J16 with a yamaha 4-stroke. I have caught and released several tarpon in the 60lb. range this past season out of my sweet 16 in very shallow water.
Right now I`m at the house on Lake Harris (Yalaha) in Central Florida noth of Orlando. I`ve got the boat set up for bass and stripers. I`m spending the Fall and Winter here and will return south for the mid april through early june season.
I`m a retired chef (The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. and Wyndemere C.C.). I spent forty years dreaming of fishing 6 days a week and spending one day getting ready to. Now it's a reality. Tom

Previously retired from Exxon Research & Engineering, where I started out at Corporate Labs in New Jersey then transferred and retired from Baytown Texas. Worked for a physicist on laser research and spectroscopy. Before Exxon, I spent 7 years with Bell Telephone Labs in New Jersey working on lasers for the Air Force.
Six years in the Naval Air Reserves where I managed to somehow stay out of Vietnam. In those days EVERYBODY in the service went to Vietnam.
My J16 is a center console with electric trolling motor up front, Yamaha 25 4-stoke manual start with remote, 2 6 gallon tanks in back, motor/instrument battery (charged by engine) in back, trolling motor battery (charged by me) up front. Greetings all,
My name is Butch, I am from Milford Connecticut. That is located on Long Island sound. I Keep a small boat on a trailer and another larger one in a slip at our club in Branford, CT.
I am a telecomm guy by profession, but I have spent years on the water as a pin-hooker, shell fisherman, gilnetter, fish trapper and pleasure boater. I have scratched around on the natural growth beds using a hand dredge for seed and market oysters as well.
I am in the research and selection process of putting together a Carolina Skiff DLX in the 21'-23' range that will be tiller steered only. I plan to go with either a 4 stroke or an e-tec of 75-90 HP.
I am already enjoying all the info on this site, I look forward to being able to contribute mre when the deal is done!
Cheers,
Butch

Thank you for the recognizion. I don't recognize the hard charger, maybe its the sunglasses, he looks very happy to be on the water. Hello Will,
Not sure of the corporal's last name, first is Wes. We carried him out along with a Sgt Dave Sanfillipo from Aviation Supply. I appreciate the good words. Btw, we are planning an all out get together again for MAD 3, June 7, you need to sign up and let us carry you out as well. I typically liason with the Head Boats, but we have plenty of personal boats to carry you out for whatever you are after. We do appreciate your service to our country and want to show our appreciation to you all. Most of us are ole vets who know what it is like to be unappreciated or even acknowledged of our service. Be sure and check out our website.

They I have a buddy who lives off one the sounds or bays up in Rhode Island. He lives off the first sound after you cross out of Conn. Boy Oh Boy the inlet out of that sound is mean. Coming out you have to make a hard right in front of the beach and watch the swells.. shallow water all around. His ride is a 24' rampage.

Greeting from the Sandhills. I am a high school teacher in Fayetteville and have a place in Swansboro. My son and I like to fish the skinny water in my 1995 21' CS from Cape Lookout to Lea Island mostly for the puppies, trout and flat fish. Lived in MHC back in the late 80's. This is a great site and I have learned a lot from the interesting and informative posts. I also noticed all the "pirates" lurking about. Hope to be able to add to the fray in the future.

Greetings Dell - welcome aboard. 012 There's a bunch of us fishing in the MHC/Swansboro area. As you get to know some of us, we'd be glad to meet up with you next time you come down. For my part, I'm looking forward to expanding my fishing to include the area around Bogue/Swansboro in search of the mighty redfish and elusive speckled trout - and you know I'm always ready to find another flounder hole :-X Lea Island, eigh? Don't even know where that one is...

Looking forward to meeting everyone. We should be hunting 'em hard in the spring around Bear Isand. Also, Lea Isand is an uninhabited isle just south of New Topsail Inlet. You may know it by another name, maybe Hutaff Island. We fish the inlet bars for puppy drum in the spring and fall. Too much traffic in the summer. Here is a link with more info:

You may know it by another name, maybe Hutaff Island.
No, that’s a little farther south than my usual stomping grounds but it’s never a bad idea to travel south in the spring and fall to expand the fishing season. Topsail Island ain’t that far from here either – let us know when the reds are “in”, will ya?

I am from LA, (Lower Alabama) near the gulf coast. I'm a ward of the government (employee, not inmate). Anyway, I recently sold my deep vee fishing boat, and am lusting after a CS 19 or 21 DLV, maybe elite, not sure about that, but was wondering about installing a T top. Is that doable, and if so,are there things to watch out for? What are the belly fuel tanks made of in the elite models? Also dual batteries should be no problem? Raw water wash down? Thanks.

Hi, I'm new to this forum stuff but I'm glad I found you. I've really enjoyed this site. I'm from Roanoke Va and I've been into law enforcement for the past 24 years and plan to retire next year at this time. I have my own tree cutting/trimming business which will continue to support my addiction to fishing.
I've owned a J-16 for several years and have loved it. In fact, I like the Skiffs so much that I traded my Bass Boat in last week for a 2008 218 DLV which now sits next to the J-16 in my garage.
I fish mostly fresh water but hope to expand to sound and bay fishing and for some of those big James River Catfish.

Hey all, I'm new to the forum and come from Delaware. Mostly use my 19 v series w/50 Merc on the Indian River to bottom bounce for flounder, trap crab or rake clams with my 7yo when I'm not teaching public school students in Wilmington. I'm always looking for new ways and suggestions to modify the skiff to make those trips more efficient. Glad I found this site.

Mike SR. glad you found us.............. looks like the fluke season in NJ may be a bit dismal this year and even worse next year....love to do the bottom bounce for em too, crabbin is also a great pastime and it seems I can come up with more of them than the fluke. Anyway welcome to the skiffin board...we love pictures posted through photobucket or the such and these services are free and if you don't already use one just do a search for how to post a photo and it should come up for you, or jump in and yell for help..... Keep on skiffin and fishin Wilie 017

Welcome waterbilly,
You say you're in Newport, is that NC? If it is there's quite a few members here from the area. Enjoy the site. 012 Gregg
Welcome aboard waterbilly. Jack mentioned to me the other day that he knew someone that recently ordered a 258. I noticed you haven't yet completed your Personal Text Line so I can't be sure you are the same "someone" he spoke so highly of. Doesn't matter if you have a CS yet or just interested in CS's, we're glad to have you join our membership. I think you'll agree, there's a lot of interesting and useful information in these forums. Lookin' forward to your participation. 012

I'm from north carolina, I new here and have just statred looking at carolina skiffs for a family boat. I really like that they are roomy and from what i have read here, they are very stable on the waters. Ive been on the carolina skiff web sight and i think we would need a big model boat and the dlv models look liek they woudl suit our family best. There seems to be a lot of good people here and i hope to learn a lot of information before i make a choise. Thanks. If anyone knows fo a good boat dealer in central north carolina they recommend, i don't mind traveling but i would like to start close to home if i can find one with a good number of boats.

Tripnc, welcome aboard.I'm pretty sure we can deside what boat is best for you. ;D
There is a bunch of good people in this site, they can answer you a lot of questions.
As far as a dealer, they are a lot in your area(NC), i'm picking up my boat this weekend from Chatlee Boats in Sanford. If you want, give Nat a phone call and he'll take care of you.If you tell him about CSO, he'll do even better. But again, go or call as many dealers as you can and compare prices, they are all of them out there to take your dollars, so shop smart and take your time. Also very importand is service for your engine, make sure you pick up an engine that you can service locally. Good luck.

FYI, my 198 DLV is rated for 11 people and I've had 10 in it safely. I think the 218 is rated for 14 people. We don't all stay in the boat when tubing but we can cruise the lake let the kids drown worms as a family. With a skiff you don't have to go huge to move alot of people around and have family fun ;D

I've been reading and made a couple of posts so I'm a little late on the intro. My base is in Port St. Joe, Florida in the panhandle, but I've been kinda nomadic since I retired. I keep a home in Tampa, live in Opelika, Alabama and go to my St. Joe town home as often as I can. I'm a retired engineer/manager but please don't hold that against me. Made guidance components for weapons of mass destruction for the Navy and Air Force. Got a brand new 218DLV with a 115 Suzuki which hasn't been in the water yet 'cause of the sucky, windy weather. Nice meeting you all.
Mac McCoy (mccoy333)
Live in Richmond, VA. Didn't grow up boating, but got a small cottage on Mobjack Bay 20 years ago and fell in love with the water. We fish in the lower Chesapeake Bay. Actually got my first (and only) citation flounder last year. 014
Got this 218 DLV last year. I've learned more about the boat in one month on this web site then I did all last year on the boat. Great site.
