Ok, I'm trying to buy some summer goodies without going boat broke. Bimini, towables etc. I looked on Overstock.com , broke down and bought what I could afford, a Garmin 440S. Good thing for Bill me later. Screen is a bit small but it does everything I want for the waters I travel. Fingers crossed. But now I'll need another battery huh?

gunnykurt,
You don't have to have another battery. I run my electronics, pumps and lights off of my starting battery. I do have a second battery that is mounted up front but is dedicated to a trolling motor. There are guys here who have dual batteries but it isn't a must.Just my two cents. Gregg

Ditto w/ Gunnar. I run my 440s and everything else off the starting bat with no troubles. If you get chatty on the VHS that'll pull more current than leaving the GPS/Sonar on. I wouldn't suggest sitting idle and running off the bat all day long but for those average days, fish a little here then fish a little there, you shouldn't have any issues.

I never had electronics on a boat before. Just a Ritchie compass and a flare. Thanks for the intel.

You should be fine on your battery, you could always get one of those ten dollar gauges that you touch to the posts to check it throughout the day, but if you move from one spot you should be fine. That being said, i have 2 batts with me all the time and my engine even has a pull start....talk about only needing to be stuck once :)

I have 2 batteries and my engine ONLY has a pull start. One is just for my trolling motor, though (deep cycle).
