I've got my tent for sleeping, waders and my chart of Neuse river to core sound. I'm going to tie a rope to a inner tube for the tackle box and wade the skinny water looking for the reds.

When I get tired I'll sleep at one of the many fine campgrounds in the area. I'm stopping by friends one afternoon in Atlantic. Then I want to stop at a number of places. Had an old buddy in Swansboro I'd like to try and find. Can't forget Driftwood in Cedar Island for a shrimp dinner. maybe rent a kayak for some up close water fishing.

If I can I would like to get down to Wilmington for a day to see some of my old hang outs.

I'm looking for land for the furture and I think that is around New Bern.

Would like to buy a skiffer some gas and do some fishing. This way I could feel the boat so I know which model will be in my furture.

Just made 3 night reservation at the New Bern KOA for 4/20-4/23. Got the tent after work. I decided to bring the canoe... have to do some painting and rigging but it's coming down with me.
I think I will stay a night at Driftwood campground when I go visiting friends in Atlantic. I want to use the canoe around the islands there.
maybe head for Swansboro after that???
only 12 days to go....

Let's talk fishing spots

I'll have a canoe with oars and a strong back.

How about fishing these creeks headwaters?
Adams, Clubfoot, Hancock, slocum, and Cahooque

siddie fields area, Great island, temple's point

What could I catch in these areas?
What do think?

Can't help ya on any of those places. Got an idea though. When you go to Atlantic, check with Kari at Morris's and see what she would charge you to walk on the ferry with ya canoe. It would be an easy paddle from the ferry landing on Portsmouth to Old Drum Inlet. On the way you have to pass right by some great trout and red fish holes or maybe if ya friends in Atlantic and have a boat, maybe have them take you as far as they can and paddle the rest of the way. Around either inlet, New or Old Drum and the creeks around them offer good fishing, just a PIA to get to, even with a skiff. :o :o DON'T FORGET YA DEET!!

Thanks for the idea... last night I was watching "Youtube" fishing Down east and in the neuse river. kayaker seem to have it made in the skinny water off the end of Cedar Island.

I'll have to give my friend Ken a call and see if he has a boat... after all those years of fishing commercially I thought he might be done with boats... you can go thru a lot of money on them when it is a business.

11 hours to go!!!!
I still haven't packed much
It's amaging what you can find in a tackle box after sittting in the garage all winter.
I found a Penn reel I knew I had somewhere, Plus that Gulp bait on the hook that turns into concrete, wow that is tuff stuff. No gas money!!!
Waiting for the portable alram clock to go off then I can take a nap before packing

Charlie, here's some info that should be helpful in planning your trip:

MHC temps for the week you'll be down are forecast to be:
60 (+/- 2 degrees) night time lows
70 (+/- 2 degrees) day time high
Likely to see some showers and a few thunder storms throughout the week.

Talk radio: FM 107.3 or AM 1240
Country: FM 95.1 or 94.1
Classoc Rock: FM 106.5
Soft Rock: FM 103.3

Don't know whatcha got for rod/reel combos but here's what I think you’ll find useful:

light reel (10-12 lb test) light/med rod (6-7 foot) - spinning or bait casting. Whatever's comfortable for all day casting for trout, drum.

Medium reel (15-20 lb test) med/heavy rod (7 foot or longer) - spinning or bait casting. Casting to larger fish, nearshore from boat or for surf fishing.

Two of each would be best. If you have a 4/0 to 6/0 conventional reel (Penn Senator 113/114 type) with a med/heavy bottom fishing rod, bring it if you want, or you can use one of mine - assuming we get favorable seas to go offshore.

Don't forget to stop at a Walmart once you get into NC to pick up your non-resident "short term" saltwater fishing license.

Have a safe trip! Once you get off I-95, remember that we live a different pace of life down south - be patient, you'll eventually make it ;D
