I just sold a Mako with a bunk trailer and bought the 17' DLX. I always hated sinking the trailer in saltwater, but I guess there is no choice, since the skiff requires a bunk trailer. Any suggestions on rust prevention - I am always in salt - even tho the trailer is galvanized, it will eventually feel the effects of salt??

It will feel the effects quick too.
I spray the trailer down with Boeshield t-9 which leaves a coating on it. So far, So good. :)

When I get home, the first thing I do is set the sprinkler underneath the center of the trailer and let it run.
In the mean time I can go about my business, emptying the boat, (hopefully) cleaning fish ;D, putting stuff away....etc. I usually let it run for 10-15 minutes.

I use a garden sprayer on my hose and fill the cup with dawn dishwashing detergent which is cheaper than the anti salt solutions you can buy now and seems to work as well. I then wash down the boat trailer and motor. I also have an oblong plastic tub bought at walmart i use instead of the ears when running the engine to wash out the cooling system and put dawn detergent in the water. If I use the ears I use the garden sprayer which has a connection for the ears. After a through washing I rinse with plain water. I got this idea from someone else.
