Scallops are found along the Florida west coast in the Big Bend area, but I cannot tell you about their availability in the Cape Coral area. I don't think they are "legally" harvested south of Pasco county. Along the Big Bend, they are generally found on the clear-water grass flats in shallow water (2-10 ft deep). From July through August, generally, they are pletiful (from just north of Tampa up to about Mexico Beach) and can be picked up using a mask and snorkel. Scallops were plentiful this year around Horseshoe and Steinhatchee until about mid August, then they got harder to find. The season is closed now.

We have never harvested them but its sounds like a lot of fun when they come back in season.

Yes it is. Me and some friends make it an annual thing to take our boats up to Crystal River or Homosassa amd hang out on the grass flats and scallop.
