Just wanted to pass on a recent experience I had with the purchase of a Moeller 6 gallon gas tank from West Marine. After seeing one, I was absolutely convinced that Moeller makes tanks for Yamaha, but charges about 30% of what a Yamaha dealer gets. You do have to purchase the correct hose connector for your engine, though. When I got the tank home, I realized there was a problem with the filler cap / vent screw. When I attempted to tighten down the vent screw against the O-ring, the treads jumped - like they were not tapped deep enough or something.
I called Moeller directly and described the symptoms, and they confirmed there was a problem with the cap, and suggested that I contact the seller of the tank, which I found odd. I assumed Moeller would simply mail me a new cap. I contacted West Marine (Galveston) where I purchased the tank and they said they would look into it and make good. The next day I received a brand new tank FedEx with a vent screw that tightens down snugly without stripping. I thought this was far beyond the call of duty, and really appreciated it. They didn't even ask for the old tank back.
Before I received the tank, I visited a local dealer who sold Moeller, and half the 6 gallon tanks they had on display had exactly the same problem that my original one did - so check before you leave the store.
