View Full Version : Planer Boards
As I start thinking about the upcoming near and off shore trolling season, I'm considering adding planer boards to my arsonal. Seems like a simple, less complicated, and less expensive option than outriggers. The out-rovers look interesting - anybody have any experience with 'em?

What other types/brands should I consider?

1stSgt, looks really good.Have you heard anything about them ?
What species is good for ?
Anything you would normally surface troll for. In this area, nearshore: king mackerel, spanish macks (though it's a little overkill for spanish IMO). Offshore: dolphin, tuna, wahoo. Basically, the planer boards would allow 2 more lines in the spread. In summer, offshore for the above 3 species can be as close as 20 miles out from the Cape, I like to run 4 + 1 center squid daisy-chain teaser rig. Won't be able to get ouf often with the skiff but when I am, it would be nice to optimize my chances of getting bit.

Hey Dave,
1st sgt, (top, as we called your counterparts in the army),
I am going to run away from home just to go fishing with you. When's the best time to show up where you live???

Reg... you better be at the dock at 0:500 if ya gonna be fishin with 1stSarge ;D
The time "springs" forward a hour this Sunday (9Mar). If everything goes on my schedule, I like to be leaving the dock just at the first sign of light, usually 1/2 before sunrise on a clear day. But if you want to drive up from SC, I can let the motor warm up a couple extra minutes if you're running a little late. ;D

1st Sarge I have a few of them and you can have them when I go to MHC over Easter Week-end. IMHO they are s$%t. You can only pull the lightest of bait and will work you to death in choppy water. My friend makes them so I have to remain anonomous.

Thanks for the strait skinny Capt. As long as you're being generous, I may as well give a pair a try and see if I can find an application for 'em. 012
Look forward to seein' ya Easter weekend. Have you seen the Easter Weekend thread on the CCC of CSO fishing board yet? http://carolinaskiffowner.com/index.php?topic=1843.0
