When I reply to a post, why does it not show up in the New post? I know it must be something I'm doing wrong.

Because only "Other peoples" posts show up to you. I see your post as a "new post"

Guess the software figures you know you made a post;D

*TIP*
From your user control panel, you can elect to "subcribe" to a thread.
If you post in a thread (topic) and click the "quick links" tab and then "subcribed threads" it will let you find any thread you made a post in fast...
