Nothing much happening with my trips Dave. Lots of short flounder mixed in with large lizardfish. Water temp at Shak last Thursday was 83 and stayed that way all the way to the Sheraton and out about 1/2 mile.
Noticed the dredge at the port...no more wall fishing for awhile.
Glad you had a good trip and made it back safely.
*Cheers*

struggling to find quality fish inshore, mainly shorts on flounder and lower slot drum....but finding the overslot drum early in the morn in the surf
Thanks for the report fellows.
83 don't sound too bad Gary, for this time of year... bet it's up over 90 in the backwaters and on the afternoon flats though. Does there seem to be a lot of bait around?
We need to get together and go after some of those convicts hanging on the bridge pilings ;D
George, are the over-slots running in schools or are you finding them one here and one there? Sound's like a good way to start the day *Cheers*
Kings anyone? How about spanish... I hear (on other reports) they are numerous but small, with plenty of small bluefish mixed in.
Anybody fishing the nearshore AR's for flounder?
Seems like every time the seas have been decent, the wind has been out of the east... never seen so much east wind in the summer *kickrock*

Gonna have to give that convict fishing some serious consideration.
I really haven't paid very close attention to the bait supply. I do know that Broad and Gales creeks are full of it but other than that, I just haven't looked.
I have noticed a lot of smaller Spanish working all the way from the AB bridge to the inlet and up in the 'Stacks also. Been a ton of porpoises there too.

Howdy Dave........been wondering if you came back or just packed up and moved on down to sunny Fl ;D Not much fishing going on here, did manage a few spanish about 2-3 weeks ago and they were tasty  Other than that not much. I am planning an Old Drum trip week after next (not this week but next) night trip if you and or gary want to come along. Should get my ttop on this week to get ready.
*popcorn*.....No, I'm right here in good ol' NC, but the beautiful clear water on the Gulf coast of FL and the (uncommon to me) outstanding nearshore bottom fishing temporarily spoiled me, I think rotflmao
You planning your trip for bulls on the Pamlico, in the vicinity of Oriental? I've been thinking about a trip out there myself... I'm ready when you are! I might slip out from the base (Hancock Creek) this week and do some scouting in the area... been told those fish can be caught in the day time too??? I've been looking at those Lupton rigs... may have to tie some up.
You're gonna love your t-top... may have to be careful with all those ponies on your transom, to trim your motor just right so you don't go sailing up into the wild blue ;D

Im probably gonna try the neuse side around oriental. I have some buddies fishing up there this week. Daytime can be good too. Im thinking about moving up that way myself, got some irons in the fire. It will probably be later in the week when I go because the boat will be incognito waiting for ttop. Cant wait, for top and drum ;D Call me mid week if ya want and Ill let ya know my plan.
Heres a good read if you tie your own

The reds do not seem to be in large schools but I usually land 4-5 in about 2 hours or so of actual fishing time..bait is in all the bays and flats but it is so darn hot in them it seems you have only a very short window to catch any drum shallow.

I am way under gunned in boat for the big sound area but if anyone needs someone to cut bait I would love to see if it works in my schedule.
Thanks for the link Tim... I was thinking there were specific "rig" regulations for night time fishing on the Pamlico for these drum, but I wasn't able to find it in my initial search. There does seem to be a conflict of information on that PDF file though, so I send an email to the MF to get a clarification of hook size. I'm thinking the size must be greater than 4/0, (as stated in the note embedded on the image) rather than what it states further down in the text of the document. The Lupton rig, for instance, comes with a 10/0 circle hook.
I'll call later this week to check on your plans *Cheers*
Hey George, your welcome on my skiff anytime. Once I get this figured out some, I'd be glad to swap you a bull drum trip for a ride on your skiff, down Sneads Ferry way *Cheers*
