Nice Blue!!!
I like the guys choice of rod and reel (Ugly Stick and Shimano). I use a similar setup and also use 30lb test line on one pole and 50lb on another. I fish the Cape Fear and catch them in the 10-15 pound range all the time. I know, these are a far cry from 143lbs but I know there is a monster in the Cape Fear and sooner or later it will be caught. Hopefully by me. ;D Don't know anything about Kerr Lake but I would be interested in knowing more about the depth of water where the fish was caught in relation to the rest of the lake (was it shallow or deep?). The time that the fish was caught is consistent with my own experiences as to one of the best times to catch catfish this time of the year (7:00 - 11:00 PM). My preferred time is between 3:00 -7:00 AM. You can also catch them in the mid afternoon if you can stand the heat and know where the deep pools are. I use natural bait for the body of water that I am fishing. For me that is bream. I suspect that he did the same and it is a shame that he is not willing to share this information. Might be years before anyone ever beats this record.

Anyone who has fished for awhile has a story like this. My most recent consists of a broken ultra light rod and no fish. Didn't even get to see what it was. I was fishing for bream with a cricket at the time. fought the fish for 20 minutes trying to get it out from under a log when I got impatient. *clonk*
