I finally got out for my first crabbing trip of the year. My logs showed that I did pretty decent around this time last year. I crabbed a river of the Western shore of the Chesapeake Bay this past Saturday. My friend Paul accompanied me. I had the lined deployed around 6:30 in 7'-9' of water. We managed 11 keepers on the first run. It was pretty steady the next few runs. As the sun got higher, it slowed down and we caught 2 keepers on one run. I decided to let my line soak a little longer and it paid off. We caught well over a dozen keepers on that run. I let my line soak longer the next few runs. We topped of my first bushel of the season by 11. It took a little longer than expected, but it is still early in the season. We packed up and called it a day. Most crabs were light with a few nice dark crabs. Below a is picture of my first bushel of the year.
