Hello my name is Alex and I just want to say this is a great site. I am currently looking into getting a new boat and I believe I want it to be a Carolina Skiff. I live in Michigan outside of Detroit. We only have one dealer of Carolina Skiffs and they are on the other side of the state but I will be willing to make the drive when it comes time to buy. I fish mostly Lake St. Clair and an occasional inland lake. These boats just look like they would be perfect for St. Clair because they have a nice shallow draft for the flats and enough free board to handle the open lake and its waves. Anyone else here from the Detroit or Great lakes area?

Greetings Alex!
I am not from your area, but I have a few friends in the Detroit area.

A couple of my buddies keep boats at DYC on Belle Isle.

I have fished with them on the lake. Last year I ran a 47' Chris Craft Commander from Algonac to the DYC. That was a great day!

It was the first time I ever saw a Great Lakes freighter up close and personal!

Welcome Aboard,
Butch

Howdy AlexG. Glad you found us. Most of the members are up and down the Eastern seaboard and the gulf coast. It doesn't surprise me that CS's reputation is starting to filter inland. I thnk that's great and I believe you'll appreciate the skiff for the reasons that you mentioned in addition to the fact that the boat is an excellent value. Good luck in your shopping and research here at CSO.

Welcome aboard the skiffin page...... lots of good info here and I don't know if anyone here is from your neck of the woods or not, but the cs can handle the flats with ease, the waves can get quite pounding, just gotta play them right and slow down.... keep on postin Willie 017

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Yes lake St. Clair is a bit of an odd lake. The average depth is 10' with the shipping channel being the deepest part of the lake. This shallow water does how ever make the waves on this lake very close together and sharp sided. Considering the beatings I take in my 15' Aluminum boat it will be a dream ride.

Alex,
I happen to be on business in Livonia at the moment. Nice little snow squalls you get here, 6 inches overnight! You dont need a CS, you need a Snowmobile!!

Cheers,
Butch

I think you're exactly right about that. Welcome aboard 012
