With warmer weather coming and fishing season starting, a CSO fishing tournament might be in order. I don't think we need any prizes or anything.Bragging rights would be enough for me. Maybe a Spring Flounder Fling or...I don't know just tossing an idea out there. What I'm really looking for is an excuse to get together out on the water doing what we like to do.
Anyway it's something to talk about at the next meeting.Till then

That's a great idea Gregg. Maybe we can get some of the basic preliminaries out of the way here so we can firm up the details at the next meeting.
Members, if you have interest in fishing tournaments, here's your chance to get in on the early planning stages.
Some questions to consider:
Who's gonna organize fishing tournaments? Any volunteers? Can be one member or a committee of two to three.
Dates and daily fishing times? Would it be a one day, or maybe a weekend or long weekend event? Lines in at XAM with lines out at XP Choosing a particular month would be a start.
We could have one big (annual) tournament or a couple smaller ones with one big annual tournament.
What species to be included? Considering the species typically available here at the Crystal Coast, some species will be more available at certain times of the year. For instance, Bluefish, Speckled & Gray Trout, False Albacore (aka: Alberts) are typically the first to arrive in late March, early April. Redfish and Flounder usually arrive in April with Cobia right behind in late April/early May. By the 1st of June the Spanish are usually here in large numbers and the Kings will be joining them at about the same time. (Note: Spanish can often be caught in and around the inlets, however they are fished mainly outside the inlets and along the beaches within 1/2 to 1 mile out. Kings are available from 1 to 5 miles out, with the best fishing found in the 3-5 mile range.) Certainly, by mid June every species we typically find here on the coast will be present in good numbers. How about Pinfish, Hogfish, Spot, Croaker, and the infamous Lizardfish - all might be included, especially in the junior angler catagory, if included in the tournament.
Fishing methods (fair catch, hook & line only???) and catch restrictions, (no foul hooked, minimum size limits for qualifying fish???)
These are a few of the things we might want to consider. Can you think of any more? 014
