Trolling seems to be a pretty popular topic, and I know I'm always looking for information on gear, tactics and general how-to information.

Growing up on one of the Finger Lakes in Upstate NY, trolling (back in the day) meant something very different than what I've learned in the last few years. Back then, the only fish we trolled for, was lake trout, and we did it by "pulling copper". Don't get thinking about a big trolling rod spooled up with 300 copper... That's not what I'm talking about. This "pulling copper" literally means pulling (or tugging) a single strand of copper handline that you've let out a couple hundred feet behind the boat. That was all I knew trolling to be.

Decades later, I've got a boat, am living 15 minutes from Lake Ontario, and I'm learning all about the trolling recognized by most everyone else, and I haven't a clue. I started looking around on the internet for any information I could find.

In my search for information, I came across a couple trolling equipment manufacturers that actually make a wealth of information available for free to anybody who wants to read it. I realize that these two sites I'm going to reference are not CSO sponsors, so I won't link to their home pages or even come right out an say the names of their companies, but what I will do is link to some very helpful articles that they provide for free, which helped me learn to troll, and hopefully will help you too. I am not affiliated with either of these companies, and don't gain anything for posting these links other than knowing I'm passing along some good, free information that helped me learn more about trolling.

I realize that this post is walking a fine line between falling within and outside posting guidelines, so Mods and/or Harry, let me know if this crosses the line. I'm hoping not because it really is good info, but if it does, in your opinion, cross the line, go ahead and edit/delete it.

Tight lines!
