View Full Version : Trailering with the motor up or down?
What position should the motor be in while trailering? I had assumed "down" to minimize transom pressure, but when I had my boat serviced, the tech left it pulled all the way up. Is that better?
This is a 25 HP 4 stroke Suzuki tiller model no tilt/trim, so the motor must be either all the way up or in one of five positions down.

If you have the room under the skeg, the best way IS vertical(down), if not, then you got to to lift it and some kind of a divice (my wedge, transom saver) to secure the motor in the tilt position, not all the way up.
Suzuki has some issues with the motor tilt it all the way up when loading on your trailer from fishing or cruising and the motor is hot and still has water in the cooling system, some how backs down in the motor.Never happened to me, i read a post here about this.

I believe the problem is on the 150 and 175 motors only. Than only if you tilt them all the way up while they are hot, letting them idle cool before shutting them off eliminates the problem.

That's great. 001

I first heard of it on a 175 I think, it was over a year ago.
Suzuki knows about it, Last I heard they were working on a mod. to fix the problem.
But if you just idle it cool, a good thing on any motor, the problem goes away. waving

I always let them idle at the dock anyway.
Thank for the advise, my fellow NYer. waving thumbsup 012

if you have clearance below the foot, pull with the motor down (verticle) like NEM said. my J16 w/ a mercury 25hp always gets pulled with the motor down. less transom pressure and the motor wont bounce as much.

Was it Friday afternoon when the Tech finished the service....? Always down as far as a safe, skeg to pavement, dimension will allow.
