Hey yall, I have not posted in a LONG time but I have been doing a bunch of fishing. I was headed offshore last weekend in a friends boat on an overnighter for tuna when it broke down. We decided to take my DLX, which was parked at the camp, to catch some mangroves the next day. Well while leaving the camp, we grabbed sme jigging rods and grouper rods....just incase. Well we ended up making a good Carolina Skiff commercial. I thought yall would get a kick out of this. Let me now what yall think.
I will try to post more often now that the weather is warming up. *rod*

Thank You. That rig is about 38 miles from Cypress Cove Marina in Venice and around 12 miles from land. 5 people, two big ice chests, and gear...running hard and only burned 26 gallons.

Absolutely, as a matter of fact, I gave some grouper and AJ to a friend of mine and he liked the AJ better. There is nothing wrong with AJ meat...I dont know why some people dont eat it. Probably because they have never tried it.

It will be put on the list to try this summer. Any particular way to cook it?

Never frozen is best. We usually grill or bake it covered in garlic, pepper, lemon, butter, and a little cajun seasoning....then more garlic. Make sure to cut out the blood line...of course, I do that on EVERY fish. I dont like the way any fish tastes if it has the blood line in it.

Ah....Reef Donkeys (aka: AmberJack).....gotta love the pull. To be honest, if I caught a grouper and a barely legal AmberJack, I would probably give the Grouper to a friend and keep the AJ myself for the grill. I believe the people that didn't like AmberJack probably tried a larger more mature fish....I like mine in the under 40 inch range for the grill. Go for the tenderloin on the "shoulders" just behind the head for the best piece of meat.
Enjoyed the video, it reminded me of some of our Reef Donkey trips and can't wait to do it again here.

One other boat, more suited for that type of fishing showed up and caught a few AJs. I think alot of boats were out tuna fishing that day and that may be why we didnt see others. Plus there are plenty of rigs out there and that one is not as convienent to get to as others. They all hold fish like that though.
