Whats up CSO's just wondering if you guys see any problems with keeping the My-Wedge in place on the engine down for a period of time. Was to take delivery of new boat this past friday but with all the snow transporter was unable to deliver. My transporter has the boat at his facility with the engine down and wedge on. i THINK IT WILL BE OK....JUST WONDERING WHAT YOU GUYS THINK. sHOULD i REMOVE THE WEDGE OR LEAVE IT IN PLACE. sHOULD GET DELIVERY SOME TIME THIS WEEK.

ok guys, what im trying to say is i had the dealer put the My-Wedge on my engine before the transporter removed my boat from the dealer ship so the engine is resting on the wedge which is holding my engine off the transom. My question is, can i leave the My-Wedge in position for a few days.Dont want to do any damage to the hydraulics.Wondring if i should tell transporter to remove the wedge and put the engine all the way to the down position.I think its ok to let the engine rest on the my-wedge.Wonder what you guys think.

freak,

There's a couple of guys around here that have experience with My-Wedge that if given enough time will see your post and be able to address your concerns. We also have a couple of comedians so just take what they say with a grain of salt. ;D

I've never used a wedge but it is my understanding that it relieves the pressure off the hydraulic cylinder. If I were to hazard a guess I'd say that it poses no issues to your outboard for the few days that it is in storage. Perhaps someone (a wedge user) will elaborate on that.

I used a device I made simialar to the My wedge and am now wedge expert, however I see no harm that could come from simply leaving the wedge in place.

If it does no damage from the bouncing around from road travel I can't imagine just sitting there would hurt it.

Just my .02

PS,
Here's what I made and used to drag my boat home, Worked GREAT !!! ;D

freak,

I use the my-wedge and have left the motor on it for a few days, no problems, won't hurt anything. I normally I remove it and store the motor on the motor stand or lower the motor all the way down for longer term storage.

Just remember to remove it before backing your boat down to launch, the damn thing don't float! Don't ask. 001

Harry, the M-ywedge website states: "When the motor meets the rubber as it’s tilted down, it self-centers to form a cushioned stable platform that seals on both ends for safe, dependable trailering at the correct height and eliminates “trailer shock” ". Aren't the key words "cushioned" and "shock"?? Seems that the two purposes of the wedge are to keep it up so to speak, plus provide cushioning via 8" of rubber. While you, or at least your tube thingee is able to keep it up (again so to speak), it would seem that your rubber ends would have zero cushioning ability. How does yours address the shock issue??

The rubber end caps I have are not thick at all, so your right, there's probably not much cushion there.

I used 2 where most people use 1 my wedge. One of the rubber ends I had got chewed up pretty good where it meets the engine side, not the ram cylinder, because it was on a sharper edge, & I didn't notice it when lowering the engine.. 001 But on damage occured. thumbsup

With that being said I tried this because when I bought the 198 DLV with the 90 suzuki last year from Eds they said I could trailer it back home to NJ in the tilt support, So I did, When I got home and let the engine down I noticed that the tilt support bar had a LOT of wear from doing this. I was pissed off as this was a brand new boat, the first new boat I ever owned.

I can tell you this,
Using the things I made cost $2.35 for 2 VS 2 my wedges at what 006 40 bucks each 006

I set the motor down on my things and left just a "touch" of pressure on the ram.

Towed the boat from NC to NJ with no wear on the tilt support and damage to my ram, cylinders, or transom.

That's about all I know on this in a nutshell...........

A few days in a tilted position surely will do no harm. Remember that most, if not all, outboard manufacturers recommend that motors be stored in a vertical position. So when you get in in the garage, lower the engine to verticle.

The Suzuki owners manual is very clear about NOT trailering the boat/motor on the horizontal lock. That's just for servicing. The dealers (esp. Eds) should read the manual.

CSO's great to get so much feedback on My-Wedge better to have some protecton then none.Suzuki says no trailering on horizontal lock thats good enough for me.Great to have another New Yorker maybe one day there well be 100's of us on board.Nothing Else Matters ordered my 258DLV from ED'S Marine no problems got a few upgrades T-Top,dual batteries, swim ladder, fuel filter,42gal tank stainless prop.I sent my salesman the wedge he put it on for me he liked the product. The guy emailed me pictures of every little thing got great price they even hooked me up with transporter. My transporter has the boat was supposed to get boat this passed friday but 7''of snow killed that. Hoping for this thur or friday. Its amazing the difference in price ,some dealer in Long Island wanted 6000 more his boat is a 2007.Mine is 2008 wires below deck real nice. With my luck probably get a foot of snow wednesday night.I guess I'LL keep looking at pictures till then.Guys keep writing I am learning everything about Electronics from you guys going to install A60 Raymarine chartplotter/fishfinder I'LL be able to see the fish fart with one boys.
