Hey Matt, I was just thinking about a trip to Savannah to do the same. thumbsup

Hopefully some south FL guys will jump in here. Nothin' cheap in the keys, for a tourest, especially this time of year. In the summer (off season) of '86, the family and I stayed in the Navy Lodge in Key West real cheap. The Holiday Inn (I think it was) across the street had a nightly rate of 170.00. Don't imagine the prices have come down much since then ;D

Good luck and when ya catch 'em, we want to see the pictures.... 012

here's a good place to stay in Marathon. has boat ramp, boat dock, full rooms with kitchenette, pool, and game room. real nice place. i stayed here a few years ago and was very impressed with the rates. back then it was 120 a night with a dock space. not too bad for the keys!

dang thats not bad at all for the keys! i doubt ill be bringing my boat, but you never know....appreciate the heads up on that place!

Savannah is really about to pick up, St. Pattys day is coming (which i will leave town for) where ove 750K people will be down on river street.....any other time is wonderful! if the weather cooperates it is absolutely beautiful. As for fishing its a tad slow right now, still catchin trout and a few reds, the sheepshead are picking up. Cobia will come in about april, the river we use is actually in SC so a SC liscense is needed, but last year 2 friends went out for about an hour and caught 4 cobia all over 35 pounds with the big momma over 50...so that is on my to do list this year. Im about to start up a new job where ill be working a good bit of the weekends, but if ya ever come down give a shout, theres 8million hotels downtown :) The Westin is nice, it is across the river from river street and they have a ferry boat that runs every 10 minutes over there, so all you do is jump on a boat to go back to your place!

I get down a few times a year, this year being the exception. My sister lives in Key Largo. If you want to stay in a real "old keys" type of place - I have stayed at the "Bay Cove Motel" in Largo. Its a dump but its on the water, cheap and one of the last vestiges of what the keys used to be like. Its next door to Snooks Bayside resturant and my favorite breakfast place/bar Ms Macs. Another dump that reeks of the keys. You can have 2 eggs over with bacon and a beer if you'd like. thumbsup

There are a bunch of places to eat in Largo- some out of the way places you only find in the Keys. "Tugboats Garden of Eatin" is an interesting place. In Islamorada theres lots to do and places to stay but for more $$. You do have to stop at Worldwide Sportsman and check it out.

I have also stayed in a houseboat at Faro Blanco resort in Marathon. Marathon is cool because you can drive (or walk) up to the old 7 mile bridge each night and watch the sunset. Plus there are lots of fishing opportunities in the marathon area. I have rented a boat from Capt Pips when I have beeen there. I caught snapper and grunts mostly around the bridges. If you rent a boat you need the FL salt license. From shore theres plenty of access.

This is my place to stay when at Key Largo. My opinion, NO reason to go any further south.

And if your really into diving, ya gotta hit this place but, don't tell the owner of the first place. This guy is her ex husband. ;D ;D

Lakebiker,

Thanks to your link to Amoray I just had the nicest trip to the Keys and didn't leave the farm or have any wackey weed. Makes me want to go. Was that a 45 foot CS they used for diving? The music is great.

Thanks,
Aubrey

I've stayed at Cocoanut Cay for several years when it was called The Lagoon. Cheap, can fish off their point and they used to allow pets. Clean sheets, cable TV, nothing fancy. Another place is Smugglers in Islamorada (no pool). Try The Sands of Islamorada too. Good luck and have fun.
