My space saving leaning post, designed with Carolina Skiff hulls in mind, is ready for sale and will be listed on Ebay by the end of the week.

Here is the pricing for the basic seat and accessories: (Below are estimated Ebay listed prices. CSO members will get 10 percent off these prices)

459.95. Includes basic seat cushion and frame, front cooler bar, and rear cooler strap with buckle. 32" High X 32" Wide

+155.00 Four Rod Holders (or 45.00 each).

+85.00 Basic Foot Rest.

+195.00 Deluxe Foot Rest with rubber insert.

+95.00 Hinged seat with stainless piano hinge and under seat storage tray.

+145.00 Basic Back Rest.

+225.00 Deluxe Folding Arm Back Rest.

+95.00 King Starboard Cooler Tray (for hulls with the above deck rigging channel).

I would greatly appreciate all thoughts on this pricing schedule. Is it too low? (yeah right!) Is it out of line with what you can get elsewhere? Is it reasonable? Let me know what you're thinking!

Thanks!

Raymond

Here are some more pictures of the leaning post. I will be installing a couple of these by next week and will be sure to post pictures of the installed leaning post. Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Ray,

What is the depth of the footprint of the leaning post? From the front edge of the front legs to the furthest rearmost point (the grab bar across the back)

Wow, really looks great. OK, I'm not worth a sh!t with my math. How much is this leaning post as pictured, out the door? Next, what would be the add on for the removable back rest? Other than that, this thing has it all.

Fillet1, the overall foot print is 20 1/4 inches. The foot pads measure 17 inches. Check it out:

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d60/Martin-Marine-Design/leaningpostfootprint.jpg

As pictured above, the leaning post breaks down as follows:

459.00 Basic Frame and Seat
155.00 4 Rod Holders
95.00 Hinged seat and under seat tray
95.00 Starboard Cooler Tray
195.00 Deluxe Footrest

999.00 Total Cost
-100.00 (CSO DISCOUNT)
899.00

A basic backrest adds +145.00.

(This same setup from Birdsall, WITHOUT the cooler tray or back rest would cost 1035.00!! And, it would be either too wide, or too narrow for the Skiff hull.)

Very helpful Ray. In that example, how far is it from the top of the seat to the top of the footrest, when it's in the position shown. I know there will be some depression of the seat cushion when perched atop it but I want the distance to be suitable so that my wife's feet touch the footrest when she's in the saddle. With that in mind, would you require or recommend changing the location of the bend in the front legs to accommodate raising the position of the footrest?

I've reconsidered and think I'd like all four rod holders (especially at your price) but I may have you place them on a more vertical angle, more perpendicular to the deck, as it would provide me a little more room to move behind the seat when using one or more of the holders. For instance, if they are now at 5 degrees I may want you to position them at 2 degrees. In my case I would want them all to be strait up, (with the 2 degrees angle going toward the rear of the boat) again, to allow better passage around the sides of the leaning post. The four rod holders I plan to use as general purpose holders when traveling or even fishing, but will likely only use the center one for trolling. I plan to use my boat rod holders to provide a multiple line trolling spread.

Couple of final questions:

Would these mods change the pricing?

How do you prefer or require the payment schedule or transaction be handled?

Thanks,
Dave

Hello Dave,
The foot rest can actually be mounted anywhere along the length of the front legs. So, I can easily (i.e. without modification, without extra cost) locate the foot rest so it best suits your wife's foot position.

I will be glad to mount the rod holders at whatever degree you prefer. In the picture, they are mounted at 15 degrees simply because I think they look best that way! (In relation to the angle of the back leg). Of course, it makes a lot of sense having them more straight up to avoid hitting a rod when walking around the back of the boat.

To order a seat, just send me an email (lunker@hargray.com) with a list of how you would like your leaning post and soon afterwards, I will send you an invoice via email. Take a look at the invoice and make payment in any manner you prefer. I accept all forms of payment, including all credit cards, paypal, check or money order, etc.

This is very cool! I cant wait to see my leaning post in your boat!

Let me know if you have any questions!

Dave,
One of my employees is around 5 feet tall. If it helps to visualize the placement of the footrest, I can send you a photo of him sitting in the seat and where his feet end up.

More than likely, it will be Monday before I can get any pictures of my employee Phil on the leaning post. I will be sure to post them as soon as possible!

PS: It may help with sales. ;D

Ray, I'm sending you an email in a few minutes.

I think I can mock up something here to have the wife sit on to get the desired height of the foot rest. She's 5' 1". I think she's going to need the foot rest about 16" below the seat. The best solution might be to reduce the overall height of the seat to fit me while standing (I'm only 5' 8") and then adjust the location of the foot rest to fit Teresa's leg length.

I'm also asking for your ideas about an armrest for each end of the seat.

Well, after begging the misses to pose on my seat, to increase sales of course, she adamantly declined. So, it looks like I'm going to have to get a wig for Phil! 011

Super Phil stopped by the shop this morning so I was able to snap this photo. He is actually 5'3" tall. I tried to get him to wear the bikini. . .

Uhhhhh, yeah.... ummmmm... whew! That uhhh... is something I don't need to be visualizing right now... or ever for that matter. No offense Phil but maybe we just better stick to welding up some tubing and stitching vinyl and so forth.

Ole Phil's gonna be Famous now that his mug is plastered all over the internet. The chicks will be beating his door down... 018

Only thing that could make the leaning post any cooler would be if it had www.CarolinaSkiffOwner.com etched into the rear grab rail ..... thumbsup ;D ;D

I have the ex-large console and would like it to be 36 - 38" in width. How much more would the cost be for the additional width. And also how do you come up with the height. I'm 6'3" tall with long legs. Is the height you are making them an industry standard? Or are they normally made to fit the person? I have never had a boat with a leaning post so I don't know the height that should be right for me.

Also do you take like new cooler seats as trade-ins on the leaning post? hehe. You could sell them out of your e-bay store.

martinmarinedesign
02-28-2008, 08:37 AM
Hello Flboy3, The height is sort of an industry standard. These seats are made to be comfortable when standing up and leaned upon. So, 32" seems to be a good balance between when standing and when sitting regardless of height. You are sitting up higher than normal but this allows you to see so much better over the console. I too am 6'3" and it feels perfect. Ole Phil is 5'3" and he says it feels great as well.

I do offer these in other widths. The price for the 36" seat is +75.00 and the 38" is +100.00.

Taking the cooler seats in on trade is a great idea. Of course, I cant offer as much as you could get if you were selling the seat yourself. But, If you don't want to bother with selling the seat, I would be interested in the trade-in.

Hello Mr. Jim, the tray measures 6 inches wide X 6 inches deep X 29 long.

I should have some pictures of the installed seat later today or tomorrow. This is the week of our local boat show and we have been really slammed.

Thanks to everyone for your interest!

Raymond

So, is the install on these to just unscrew the old cooler seat from CS and screw this in instead?

martinmarinedesign
04-11-2008, 11:08 PM
Hi Chatham Scott,
Installation is really straight forward like you said. Unscrew the 6 screws securing the cooler seat, mark and drill for the 6 leaning post screws, and finally, fasten the new screws.
