Now that posts to "dock sale" can only be done by the originator (not sure if that's the best idea, but that's another story...), it's more difficult, and frustrating, to communicate with the seller. Particularly if they don't list an e-mail in their profile, and/or if they don't accept PM's. Granted there's alway a phone # to call, but sometimes an e-mail or PM is preferable. So, if you're selling, be sure to have an e-mail address in your profle and check your PM's!!!

Good points Tommy. I have shared your frustration on lack of info before and ended up just ignoring the sale item.
On the other hand, when open posting was allowed on any item, it became a mess of irrelevent inquiries, and downright hijacking of the post so I for one have to agree that locking out comments was the way to go.
If someone really to sell something, it would stand to reason to allow communication in as many ways as possible, ie. email, PM, phone etc.
*Cheers*

Thanks guys.

It's kind of hard to miss that GIANT yellow box at the top of the dock sale reminding folks that's how the forum works, don't you think?
But yup members do miss it *001*
When you sell something in the paper do you forget to put in a phone number? If so, the editor usually catches it and contacts you before the ad going to print. More times the not a moderator will catch this also and contact the thread starter in the dock sale.
Likewise if a member does not respond to the mod, I can be contacted as I have a list of e-mail address's if the user does not elect to make that info public and not contacted buy a potential buyer or seller.
I could contact the person mking the ad.
Gary you seem to be in tune on why the dock sale is set the way it is.... *thumbsup*
Too many time have ads been hi-jacked, and memebrs got pissed about it, and rightly so. But it's all spelled out in the GIANT yellow box ;D

Harry, yes the large yellow box is hard to miss, HOWEVER, two recent boats for sale give testimony to the fact that people are unable to be contacted by e-mail and or PM through oversight on their part. I spend a lot of time over at THT. Yes alot of threads get hyjacked, and yes a lot of stupid comments can be made, BUT there's a lot of interesting and helpful comments made that are lost here with the present DOCK SALE guidelines. Don't know if this is technically possible, but a comprise would be to give the originator of the thread the ability to delete unwanted comments. Who knows better than the originator as to what's helpful or not to their post.

No way for the OP to delete unwanted comments from other users.
Thanks for the suggestion, but it's staying the way it is.
More people then not, complained about the old way, or the way "THT runs their ad section" and why we changed it in the first place. Theirs a site I frequent and they ran their ad section like THT, guess what? Nothing but hi-jacks, & complaints and they run it like CSO now.
Like I said, our mods or myself will send the person a note if we notice missing contact info. However we cannot possibly be on here 24/7 and catch everything. If you or someone else see's something that needs addressed you could always contact us about it.
All the best,
Harry
