Made a short trip today out of Calcasieu Point Landing. Found a canal with the water moving and just pouring out of the cuts. Could have sunk the boat with redfish. Watched a man and 4 young boys just load up in a short time. Took a bunch of photos of pelicans close up but something went wrong with the camera and I don't have them. Here is what I caught. Released a bunch more.

got a question... Hows redfish taste? Caught some but never felt like filleting them and cooking them.

are they comparable to snook!?

Never saw or ate a snook but the redfish are great grilled or fried and long as they aren't too large a fish. After blackend redfish became popular in resturants the comercial fishing put a hurt on em down here. They're back in large numbers again.

DCRICE.. As I was putting in at the boat launch a Carolina Skiff J16 was pulling out. I went and spoke with him a bit and it turned out he had won the boat in a tournament with a 5 1/4 lb flounder in 05. He had located the redfish tipped me to where they were.

I haven't seen many J-16's around. Mine came out of Atlanta. I think it a good size. A little too small to fish the pontchartrain tressel except on good days. A little to big to get into the ponds during low water. Must be just right.

Just right for around here. Plenty of protected waters. Ship channel and intracoastal waterways surronded by lakes and marsh with the gulf not far away. I almost bought a 16 but couldn't pass the one I have up.
