I know we've got quite a few "locals" from this area of N.C. and didn't know how many of you knew of this site/link. I keep it in my favorites and can check them out before leaving home. Hope it helps.

Here are links I use for tides and cross reference with the lunar stage for tide intensity. This helps you to know when to get in and out of skinny water ;)

cool links thanks
014 Good info guys! For those that sometime come down to the Crystal Coast, here are some links I use before heading out to fish. This is such a good idea, I hope you don't mind if I borrow it to make up a similar topic for the CCC of CSO Fishing Reports Board. 012

Gentlemen,
I really appreciate all the weather and fishing links. They will be a great help.
All the info provided in the links will be something new for me to learn and to learn how to interpret and utilize.
Man there's a lot to learn with this CS boating thing. And my learning curve steepens with my age. Where's my 11 ft. row boat and my Sunfish?
Thanks,
Aubrey

Here is the real NC Secret website. http://www.fryingpantower.com/ You didn't hear it from me, I just go there and check out the fishing reports........
By the way, this also is the provider for MiitaryAppreciationDay.org for no charge, except for the real deal, military appreciation. Check the website out for all current information on weather, AR's and other relevant fishing info. Good site, even if they do provide the above mentioned website for free and no advertising, only heart felt love for our active duty and former active duty service members.....

In addition to the many great links already posted, for those of you that fish inland waters, where topographic maps show better detail than nautical charts, you may want to check out the Terraserver link. Besides online topo's, you can click at the top right for a aerial photo of the map you are viewing.
For those of you fishing small inlets, that nautical charts simply do not list water depths, because of constantly changing conditions, you can get (old) aerial photos, to get an idea where to expect to locate bars. For example, this map of an inland portion of New Inlet, on the Virginia Eastern Shore..............................
http://terraserver-usa.com/image.aspx?T=2&S=11&Z=18&X=1064&Y=10288&W=3
once it opens, up at the top right, left click on the tab labeled Aerial. You can see the sandbars very plainly.
Terraserver covers most of the USA. For much more recent aerials, Goggle Earth is superb. Their maps leave much to be desired.......use the Terraserver maps to locate what you're looking for, then use Goggle Earth for a fairly recent aerial photo.
River Water Levels: Covers most states. Here are the North Carolina gauges..............
http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nc/nwis/current/?type=flow&group_key=basin_cd
This is handy for scooting up into those really tight freshwater fishing spots. One of the better Largemouth holes on the Nottoway River, here in Virginia, is hard to reach. Lower gauge levels than 4 feet block the river with gravel bars. Anything over 7 feet, and travel downstream is dangerous, due to swift currents, and the risk of broaching your boat.
Last, if you primarily boat on inland waters,
My Topo/Maptech sells a superb mapping program.......better than the DeLorme mapping program. (I have both.) You can print custom topographic maps at home, adding markers or tracks, as needed.
If you also hunt, you can turn your handheld GPS tracking feature on, and whatever game trails you follow, when you get home, you can load them onto your E-map.
Besides using Terraserver to look at maps online, Maptech has a similar program:
http://mapserver.mytopo.com/bp/mapserver/index.cfm?BPID=MAP0060030900%2C1%2C1%2C0&CFID=246858&CFTOKEN=18308753

One more thing about using the MyTopo/Maptech programs.
A lot of Navy guys want to use Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds, when navigating, because that's what they used in the service, while many Army and Marine"Ground Pounders" prefer using UTM coordinates, because they are more familiar with using that system.
With Maptech, you can print maps using either of these systems, and many others, if you choose to do so.
