Does anyone have torsion springs on their trailer? I'm thinking about replacing my leaf springs, when they eventually rust a away, with torsion springs. I don't really know much about torsion springs but they look like they would hold up better and not rust. Any info would be great!

We have torsion suspension on our trailer, under a CS 24, and could not be happier. Although we mostly fish freshwater, it's been in saltwater about 15 times since 2000.........zero problems.

I have spings under the skiff but have a 36' 14,000 lb horse trailer with torsion axles, you can't go wrong if you are willing to spend the extra money.

I replaced my tandem axle 14 inch wheels with a single axle 15 inch wheel rated @ 5500 lbs for my DLX 24. I am in salt water frequently and at times are not able to wash it off as I should. They are holding up real good so far. Can't say much for the steel framed trailer, which I will replace with aluminum "I" beams one of these days and keep the torsion axle. I lost several hundred pounds when I replaced the springs with the torsion and went to a single axle that was rated enough to carry the weight of the DLX 24, motor and gear.

Yes, I've got full size wheels also; less rotations per mile, less bearing wear, less tire wear.

Bait Cutter,

What kind of torsion axle to you put on your trailer? Do you have any pictures?

Thanks so much!

Does anyone on CSO have any recommendations on which Torsion Axles they like the best and where they got them? I have a 2000 single axle Performance trailer that came with 2001 17' Semi-V with a two stroke 70 Yamaha that I want to put Torsion Axles on. I am not quite sure what weight rating I would need and could use some help???

Thanks,

Steve

I purchased my 5500 lb torsion axle from Sturdybuilt Trailers Supply, 6511 SR 64, Bradenton, FL 34208, telephone 941 747-4983, www.sturdybuiltonline.com

It has 15inch 6 lub tires and rims to carry the weight of my DLX 24, motor and gear. Can't remember the name or brand they ordered in for me; however, I am very pleased and would not purchase another trailer unless it was torsion axled. Hope this helps...sorry for delay in answering.

I have never had any problems with it and it is constantly dumped into salt water as I live off of Tampa Bay.
