I went fishing this morning without much expectation after the 20"+ of rain last week. First realization is that the water temp. has dropped down to 70*-72*. Second is that the water looks like tea, it's not murky but definately stained. Next weekend should be a good one.
I tried the ICW behind Oak Island, to get away from the rivers and to find some shelter from the stiff North wind. I was pleasantly surprised to find a couple of hungry fish fishingsmilie*

Parents Had A canal full of run off the last couple days at Manteo ..
I would think that run off is washing food to the fish ?
Dose the big slosh of fresh water kill the bite ?
Good Catch GREG !

Gregg,
Are you seen any porgies down your way?
Hector,
Yesterday was the first time this year I didn't see any pogies. They're either staying deep or moved off the beach.

I spent the weekend fixing gutters and installing gutter guards to keep the crud from blocking the downspouts. I had to climb the extension ladder to the roof last Thursday night after midnight, in a downpour, to unblock one downspout. Runoff was coming in through the window casing.
Fishing was on my mind, but this seemed a bit more important. Maybe next weekend.
Nice catch, Gunnar. I plan to make a trip to the MHC waterfront and surrounding area tomorrow. I'm very interested to see what the bait situation and water condition is now, after the cooler temps and the flooding rains... may even wet a line ;D Checking the ReefCast... Saturday morning looks like a pretty decent day (mild, north winds and 8-9 seconds beween swells) to check the beaches for schools of redfish!

Well, the water is still brown and actually looks worse than it did last weekend *kickrock* good news is the finger mullet were everywhere and even a school of king sized pogies by the holden beach bridge.
I took my office manager out with me to try to find some flounder. Tried Davis canal with no joy then tried the Elizabeth river with another goose egg. Decided to try the double secret low tide hole and found a bonanza.

Got out again today. The water almost looks normal in the marshes and the fish are starting to feed pretty heavy. Stopped counting reds after 10, 2 flounder, and 5 trout. My first inshore slam of the year kept one of each for a couple of meals.

You did a lot better than I did, I got a few big blues and bunch of grey trout and small specs. I kept 2 greys between me and a buddy and they were 18" or so but we probably caught 15 or so.
