Ok! I was doing so reading in the online copy of the Carteret County News tonight which lead me to a couple of local (crystal coast) web sites.
Maybe one of you N.C. guys can tell me more. I will be coming down in a few weeks and maybe I can load up.
1. A division of Big Rock Sports called Henry's Tackle a wholesaler on Hwy 24 Newport, N.C. has a warehouse with 300 employees. They send to dealers everywhere. There was an ad for warehouse help in the Carteret news. So is there so kind of scratch and dent thing at this location???? (Phone# 252-726-6186)
2. There seems to be a manufacture of fishing tackle called Sea Striker                  ( www.seastriker.com )  located in Morehead City, PO Box 459 phone # 252-247-4113 ext. 234
I remember seeing this name in many of the offshore suppliers along the coast .
Do you guys know if they have a scratch and dent sale???
They did have and excellent How-To section
So what do you say???
Charlie
always looking for a great deal

Charlie, I never heard of any scratch and dent sales from Henry's. They're strictly wholesale and one of the largest tackle manufacturing plants in the country. Their reps stock every bait and tackle shop in the area and they make some very good stuff at a very good price. They stock the Marine Corps Exchange, the WalMarts, they have their line in Cabelas, Bass Pro Shop, and just about every large and small Mom Pop tackle shop on the coast. I lived in New Port for a few months and have lived here (just 6 miles from New Port), for 25 years and I couldn't tell you exactly where the plant is, but I do use a lot of Sea Striker rigs, jigs, spoons, planers, and various fishing tackle they produce.

If you're coming in via Hwy 70, the Neuse Sport Shop in Kinston, N.C. is always a "must stop" place. They're not the cheapest around but it it's made, thay got it.
There's also a new place in the same lot that I've not been too yet. Folks claim this is kind of a wholesale open to the public kind of place. Might be a Neuse scratch and dent place but I don't know about that. 012

Wholesale only? Why don't we look into CSO as a wholesale buyer / reseller ? Harry - would this violate some basic rules of our site ?

Charlie, you talking about Atlantic/Sea Level area or Atlantic Beach/Morehead area?
The area around Atlantic/Sea Level has got the best home/property prices on the Carolina coast right now. Not much to do but fish but some of the best fishing on the east coast. I use this place when I'm just "fishing" around for property. They seem to have the most signs around that area. NO relations, just a handy place to look around.

Yes the property maybe affordable, but it is named sea level for a reason. A high, high tide and the whole town is water front property. :o
Actually I’ve been there, nice lay back place, could see myself retiring there. 011

Lakebiker and all... that little place next to the Neuse Sport Shop is basically a surplus/discontinued shop for NSS selling some tackle and apparel. I did a walk through and didn't see anything that tripped my trigger, but their inventory probably changes regularly so if you got time it's worth a glance over.

Too Tall... I've spent a lot of hours in that part of the state when I was working in textiles. I can't say Kinston is the highlight of NC. Actually it's a pretty depressed area once you get off the main path. Tobacco, poultry, and produce is pretty much the economy down there. Unless there's a compelling reason to be in that general area, I'd suggest going farther east near New Bern or if it were I... I'd be plopping my butt down in Beaufort or Morehead City. Beaufort is a REALLY nice historical town with lots of boating and fishing. It may be a little pricy in that area though.

We have some good distributors here. I order most of my stuff in bulk, then my son and I tie all of our own rigs. Offshore and inshore.

So like what do you use for dolphin? How far do you have to go out for dolphin?

Around the end of June you can catch dolphin five miles off the beach. It should be doable in my new DLV. 014

I guess people naturally wish for the stuff they can't get easily. You mentioned the dolphin, I would love to catch some. Tuna too. We simply don't get them here in the arm pit of FL. Kings, Cobia, Trout, Reds, yep. Dolphin, nope.
5 miles out. Man that sounds good.

I will use the same thing for dolphin as I would for king, sea witches, spoons, I will rig the witches with a cigar minnow or a ballyhoo. You can get them trolling or casting I mainly just troll, its kinda hard to hold a beer when you cast lol. but the key is once you have one hooked up you need to get another line out to catch the second, they normally hang out in groups even up to the boat.

Shaggy,
The only reason I said that about the grits was because of a guy I knew here in FL who used to say it. He was a tall thin man with a long braid down the middle of his back and corrected anyone that called him a biker by calling himself a motorcycle enthusiast. We called him Crow. Every time we had grits at a tailgate fishfry he'd passby the grits and say, "Up North we call that cream of wheat!"
He never would eat 'em.
I guess it's to be expected. He's the same man who used to say "Well if you ain't got any cocain - coffee and ho ho's will have to do."
