View Full Version : Tackle lockers

My last boat had two tackle lockers in the steps/seats to the front deck. Each one held two boxes and I could switch them out depending on what kind of fishing I was doing and not take up deck space. I've found some in Cabela's saltwater catalog but they are kind of pricey[$130 for 2-drawer & $150 for 4-drawer]. Has anyone tried installing one ? I 'm curious to know where you got it and how much it cost. I've got room to install them on either side of the side hatch to the front deck.
Thanks, Gregg

hey gregg i recently purchased a 3 drawer taclke box from pro line boat works for 80 bucks here in san antonio i belive they ship and i installed it in front of the center console . very easy to do first i i made a templete to go over the tackle box out of poster board because it cuts easy. once i got that i simpply measures it for center tape it in place . then traced it with marker checked again for center and then cut out with dremmel tool using a spiral cutting bit cuts and sands at the same time . then checked for snuggness marked holes drilled and installed. dremmel tool works great it like cutting with a pencil gregg here is there number (210 )648-7390 proline custom aliminum and canvas i recently purchased some cooler chucks from the 80 bucks as well

On a previous boat i had made the custom cause i'm using the deeper tackle boxes(3 1/4") deep , and could not/cannot find anybody making them. They all make the ones to fit the 2" deep tackle boxes. 004 004 004
Any body knows any websites ? I payed for them an arm and a leg. 004 004 004

FPmarine.com has all kinds of storage lockers, many are OEM surplus or salvaged stuff. You can get a high end tackle locker made of starboard with stainless latches for 150.00 ish. The guys there are great.(I think I would deal with Carl?) I reworked much of my old boat and ordered lots of stuff from them. Its like an online boat junkyard. They will go outside and measure anything you want to insure a good fit.
BTW I had a tempress 3 drawer hatch on my old boat. The door had a plastic hinge with a metal pin through it. The plastic broke twice and I had to buy 2 doors from Tempress at 60 bucks each. I was not happy.
If you are going to mount the hatch low in the boat, I would opt for a side opening door rather than up or down. You dont want the lid falling down on your hands or onto the deck every time you open it. I think the FP site has some whaler hatches that would work great on the skiff.

Wow, That box looks great. Especially after I look at what I got,I guess you get what you pay for. The boxes I got were smaller than what I would have liked but I was limited to what I could fit in the boat. I gotta remind myself it's just a little fishing boat and it's what I wanted. 001

Can't really see it here but I cut into strips one of the cut-outs to reinforce the side wall in between the openings attached with 5200

Had to remove the occupancy/weight sticker and couldn't get it to stick anywhere else so I rolled it up and put it with the reg. in a float on the key chain. The color of the locker hatch isn't as white as the CS hatch, it's more like the color of the cushions. It took about 2 hours start to finish.

Nice looking job there Gunnar yay yay, I don't know about NC, but in Pa and NJ the cap tag must be in plain view ......You might be better off getting some clear packing tape or a clear piece of thin plastic and mount it under these so it can be readily seen by the CG or St. police, or whoever patrols where you are.........better be safe than fined...............again nice job on the installation. Willie 017
Nice work Gunnar! Do you have any other plans for the front deck?

One question,
I notice there's no access hatches on the top of the deck like on my DLV, Is the hatch in the middle the CS access for the JVX ?
Great install Gunnar !! thumbsup

Gregg, that's a nice work there buddy. Are these tackle lockers hold the deeper 3 1/4 trays or the 2" ? Where did you get them?
Also, the middle hatch, do you fit to go inside the deck if you have to? And if you fit inside, what size is it?
Thank you and sorry for all the questions.

Thanks for the heads up Willie, I don't know the NC regs either but I'll check it out.

Yeah Dave I'm planning on 55# 52" Minn-Kota TM and a battery mounted underneath, that should be it for the front.

Harry, there is an option of getting two 11"x19" hatches on top. I have 13"x30" on the side which is the "pre-rig"

NEM, the boxes are 2"x6"x10", it's the only size locker I could get to fit[Tempress]. I can get my head and arms in the hatch but can't get past my shoulders[13"x30"]

Brokebeach, these lockers are white, I think bright white would be the ticket!
